I have a couple question for you all. I know, crazy, right? I never ask questions.

I started dusting with DE a couple weeks ago with no luck, so I am figuring out what to use now. The local feed store carries only "Garden Poultry Dust", and TSC and FFH both carry that as well as Poultry Protector Spray. Anyone used it? Had any luck with it? Both stores told me it was a safer, easy to use, non-toxic alternative. I think I remember Nova talking about it?

I have read a handful of things saying that Sevin dust is in question / no longer recommended for use on birds, so I am going to avoid that I guess.

Haven't seen any mites on the birds, but one Ameraucana especially has lice eggs very bad in her beard and muffs. Today I broke open an egg with a yellow yolk, never had one so light coloured. Could this be a sign of anemia caused by mites? I wanted to avoid the use of chemicals on them, but I would rather treat them than let them die, and this egg has me wondering how much time I have to fool around with DE, I am planning to pick something up tonight.

ALSO! We got our very first leghorn egg today! AND IT WASN'T WHITE! Whaaaa? If I hadn't actually seen the bird lay the egg, I would have found it and assumed it was one of the ameraucanas and been disappointed that it was cream and not blue or green, lol. So it is pale brown. It is still pretty dang light coloured, but it is actually a bit darker than the eggs I get from one of our New Hampshire reds. What gives?

MSU Vet. said you can use ivermectin drops on the hens back, neck area much like a cat or dog,,,, I think it is 2 drops per standard bird. no egg toss..works for internal and external pests

Thanks, Snowflake! No one listed that when I asked what treatments they carry for lice and mites. Where do you get yours?

It's almost the tiniest one's second birthday, put the finishing touches on one of her gifts today and wanted to share them with you guys. I still have a lot to do on her other gift, and I need to get a move on!! But, one down, whew! They are far, far from perfect, but luckily my critics aren't very harsh. wink.png

I have an odd looking cockerel but not in an Uggo sort of way. I think he's different enough I might keep him. He's 14 weeks old.

And to give an idea of how big he is, the drake to the left of him is near 14 lbs!
