Sure enough, it was a double yolk egg.
That is as exciting as a first egg.

I forgot to mention that I cooked up the eggs in FarmerBoy's butter. Made dinner even more delicious.
I wish I had some raw milk to wash it down.

Congrats on that egg~!!!

How are all your birds doing up there in all this heat?
I spoke to my parents in Jasper and they said it has been 105* out on the farm. That isn't uncommon in Oklahoma but I don't remember it being that warm in the Summer in MI when I lived there. I sometimes wonder if Oklahoma is just too hot for Cochins but I have been watching them closely, misting the tops of their shade-cloth pen covers, chicken "gatorade", ice bottles in their water and frozen gallons by the broodies as well by the LFs.
Last Summer I lost 5. I am really hoping this year is better. I imagine Michigan birds aren't as used to the heat? Hope you all are surviving and that the heat breaks and that you (and we) get some rain.

Im sorry the others ran right over you and didnt see your post! Welcome from Michigan! We finally have a break from that horrid heat and most of us got some rain- not all of us, but most of us. What part of Michigan do your folks live in?
Some of us have lost a bird or two, but we have been real lucky. I think we have been doing the same things you have to keep them cool. I run the sprinkler as well, and soak the ground for them. They hang out under the bushes and in whatever cooler areas they can find.
Good luck on yours and I hope you dont lose anymore.
camera is broke- I will try, oh wait- cellphone is broke and I have an antique loaner until new phone comes. You have to wait. Unless you want to come get them. I could take them to work with me and you can pick them up...
and Uggo fever is a GOOD thing to have :)

Do I have to be a central meeting place again?
Maybe another BBQ on Saturday?
How is this for strange? Someone removed the light bulb from my front porch fixture.
It's 65 degrees here and a welcome relief from the 100 degrees of late. Could still use a decent rain.
This morning I went to open up the chick coop and heard something hilarious...it was either a little roo hitting puberty and trying to crow or someone was in there shaking a chicken around.
I'm guessing hitting puberty cause I'm pretty sure I saw which one did it when they came outside. (Robin, it was that porcelin that I said I was pretty sure was a roo)

Think you'll be breeding muscovies again next year? What colors?
