What a wonderful day we had today!

I was thinking of you BYC'ers that are up in the mountains of NC - kept looking for chickens, but only saw a couple...did get to hear a great rooster crow though!

Took the kids up to Banner Elk to take a trail ride at Banner Elk stables. It was their first time riding a horse other than 'pony rides' at a party, etc. They had a great time and so did I!

Only thing I wish was that I had NOT forgotten my camera!!

I love the NC mountains - I feel envious of all you folks who get to see that view every day when you get up. Of course I don't envy you the bad weather in the winter and dealing with all the day trippers like me!

Just wanted to share...

Well, not really, but today I'm a bit homesick for Asheville (my hometown). I don't get homesick as often as I used to, but the winters here in Arkansas are just so doggone dreary and wet. I miss the mountains. Yes, the NC mountains get the dreary and wet weather too, but at least the sun shines a good part of the time. I can handle the cold as long as the sun is shining. Here it just seems so dark and wet from November till March, rarely any sunshine. This just may be the year we break down and buy a SAD (seasonal affective disorder) lamp.
Glad you had a great and safe trip.

I have an online buddy who recently moved to Burnsville NC. She sent pictures of the windy hilly roads recently. She drove off one of them! She's okay but not looking forward to her winter commute to work. Beautiful views to be sure!

We did see a light dusting of snow here and there in the shady spots - not much but proof that winter is coming! And it was cold - didn't get above freezing until we were all the way back down almost to Morganton.

They were making snow like crazy at Sugar Mtn. You could see it blowing all around the slopes as we drove by - made me really wish we had time and $$ to spend the night and go skiing tomorrow.

Of course, it's been a few years and more than a few pounds since I've been up to Sugar to ski, but I always had such a great time, and the opening weekend or last weekend is the best time if you just like to ski a lot since the lines are non existent. Of course the snow is pretty bad, but at least you don't spend the whole day in a lift line...
