first egg colour of an ameraucana

Thread Starter

Got 6 baby ameraucanas hens in the spring and the first one layed today , but the egg is light beige , are the first eggs beige or she always going to lay beige; and my really worry are all 6 going to lay beige eggs. The one layed is mainly white if that counts for anything.

thanks

From what I understand, you can end up with white, blue, green or brown.

And the egg color will not change.  What color they start laying is the color they will always lay.

Breeding Welsummers and Barnevelders.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

You most likely got Easter Eggers. Easter Eggers are the same as Ameraucanas and Araucanas bu EEs can lay any color egg. People say they are ameraucanas but they are not.

Had a Coyote raid and killed all my birds. He gets my chickens we get his head.

What you probably have is Easter Eggers, which are often sold from hatcheries as Arucana or Americana,  They are a cross breed, so each one may lay a different color, they usually have True Arucana/Amerucana in thier lineage, so you have a good chance of getting a green/blue egg.  Wait till they all start laying, you could wind up with 6 varying colours.  fl

each hen lays a different color sometimes the color is brighter and sometimes it is lighter (hard boiled the shells color is more intense)
EE hens lay pink, purple, blue, green, khaki, and aqua
so all you can do is wait and see! caf

I had an EE that laid and off white eggs.  It's always interesting w/ EEs.

Keeper of 18 hens,  3 PW Leghorns, 1 leghorn mix, 1 FBCMarans, 1 Australorp, 2 Olive Eggers , 1 EE, a Barred Rock, a RIR, a CQ, 1 Delaware,, a Splash Ameraucana,  3 polish, a Welsummer and 25 juvies of various breeds(6 Heritage Delawares, 1 SLW, 1Blue NN, 5 FBCMs, 2 Ameraucanas, 2 Olive Eggers, and 8 Alohas.) YIKES!  Time to SELL some chickens!

Please note that Easter Eggers are NOT the same as Ameraucanas and Araucanas.  For one ting Ameraucanas and Araucanas are totally different breeds.  Easter Eggers are not a recognized breed.  They are a cross of some sort with a bird that possesses the blue egg gene.  Whether that be an Araucana, Ameraucana, or another Easter Egger.

Since you got a beige egg, you definitely do NOT have an Ameraucana.  Others above are most likely correct in that you got an Easter Egger which was sold to you as an Ameraucana.  Another possibility is that some chicks got mixed up and the person who sold you the chicks didn't know what they were selling you.

You can do a search on here for the key words "Ameraucana" or "Easter Egger" and even use me as the "Author" and you will find more information on this topic that you probably care to read.
