Australorp

Awww! I remember when my two girls looked like that. Hard to believe they were so tiny just in the spring.

Please please help!  Anyone have baby chicks??!?  Anyone live in Utah that has young baby chicks????

I have incubated eggs in my home a few times and wanted to do another batch.  Well my 9 year old son convinced me to put the incubator in his 3rd grade classroom this time.  We put 24 eggs in and they were supposed to hatch on Wednesday 9-26 and I believe they are dead.  No movement, no peeping, nothing.  They were set on September 5th.

A lot of people have suggested I just buy some chicks and pretend but I can't find any.  The teacher said that if they haven't hatched on Monday then it must not going to work.  The teacher was super distraught and the kids were already distraught.  All of the places that you can buy chicks locally only sell them in the spring.

I will pay whatever!  And travel just about anywhere!

My house sitter just called me.  He was excited to report that I have 13 baby chickens in my incubator.  He said they are all doing well.   He was so cute and excited.  He said he put his hand in the incubator and they all came running to it.  He gave them food and water and all is well

The treadle feeder I ordered arrived today, so wish me luck in teaching my senoritas on how to use it!

We have a stray cat that's adopted us, he's all black, and my brother creatively named him 'Shadow' yesss.gif  He's a sweet boy, and he loves sitting on the wall, watching the chickens. Well apparently, today, he followed Glenn down to the fenced area and very gently pressed his nose through the wire to sniff at Zazzles, one of our Golden Sex Links, and she promptly ran up and bit his nose! Poor little guy. He got a snuggle after though.

My brother's building the 'winter' door for the coop this weekend, to replace the summer door we've has since the spring as the nights are cooling down, though the days are still low 90s.

I'm in St George - still trying to adjust to the heat after spending the majority of my life on the Pacific coast smile.png  Apparently it will be in the chilly 80s next week!

Hatching all over the place again! Awesome! Cannot wait to see all these babies guys smile.png

How the heck do you decide which ones to sell, and not bawl when they leave? Argh! I get all choked up every single time. That is why I had to quit hatching, I am not too good about letting them go. Chicken Hoarder, go ahead, say it lol!

On that note....haha.....oh the irony....
dsgard: I may be interested in an EE or your Lav from this year's hatch! Questions on your lav---does she lay blue eggs? And are they very big? Mine lays super teensy weensy smaller than bantam size eggs and they have more a greenish tint, so I am thinking of selling her, but my son LOVES her coloring so if I could find a replacement he would be thrilled smile.png Also...what colors are the EE's? Would love to see them!

Sundance, what kind did you hatch again?
