It snowed.  Today. Here. In Spanish Fork.  Of course.  I don't mind, it is pretty.  Here's my apple tree out front.  005.jpg

Wonderful family, very understanding husband when it comes to chickens, dogs, birds, one big Golden Retriever, and thankful to the Lord for all!

So I went to throw the nearly dead eggs out. Nothing had happened, i was sure they were gone. Crack one open, the one that felt the lightest so i was sure it had stopped developing....wanted to see how far along it had gotten.....there is a live chick in it! I was TOTALLY shocked! Still some blood, not ready to hatch. I called Cynthia in total panic, tried to save it, looks like it is not going to make it, I cannot see it breathing anymore and it is not moving at all. It was ok for a couple hours. I am the WORST hatcher ever. What if that was the only one that made it this far! Argh!!!! It seemed to be perfectly formed.

And I cannot believe anything survived that cold night in the incubator. So I will wait and see on the others. No pips, not a thing. No way am I throwing out anything until I am positive. I wonder if that cold night is making them hatch late?

Sad face. Bad bad chicken mom. Not enough patience for this.

Aw, that sucks for you! sad.png yes, the cold could have slowed their development some. I wouldn't throw them out until day 23 is over, if you can manage that (not sure when your next lockdown is?). It is hard to be patient on them! Eggs need to have something like a turkey timer, where it pops up when they are ready!

Don't give up, Lisa! I'm rooting for you and your babies. I'm sure you're doing this a lot better than I would. I'm sorry to hear that the one may be lost, but you can do it!

so i am getting a nipple bucket waterer tonight. its a guy that does not live too far from me and its a 5 gallon 4 nipple bucket for $15. he also does custom ones too. its a deal that i could not pass up so a little later i will go get it. in other news my girls are dumping their food out all over, i have a good 25lbs of feed on the floor and they will not get their feeder back until they eat it all off the ground. it drives me crazy when they waste so much food he.gif

Aww, nuts! I'm sorry, Lisa! I am so itching to get an incubator, but I just don't know if I will be able to handle all the mishaps that go with hatching eggs. Hang in there!

so i got the new waterer and bought extra nipples too. the guy selling them is named eric and he is great. he makes them because he is sick of getting screwed over by stores. he will maybe make 5 cents on each nipple he sells so not much. so anyone looking for chicken nipple waterers i highly recomend this guy. he also sells shavings at a wholesell price because he has family that are mink farmers so he sells it for what they pay. i will set up my waterer in the morning. i am happy and it was good to meet good people.
