A couple of them still have that fuzzy stuff on them.

One more black, the last two that hatched are really small. This isn't one of them though.

Happy Owner of 6 modern day T-Rex's, and 2 Russian Tortoises! There are more chickens on earth than humans & Alektorophobia is the fear of chickens. Random Fact-- One penny doubled everyday would be over 5 million in 30 days.

Okay, now I'm a little worried about my GLW pullet. I didn't think too much of it until kimmy posed the question, but it does seem like my pullet has her feathers fluffed a lot, and Wyandottes are supposed to be cold hardy. I've been watching her today and her poo is watery with what looks like a lot of the shed lining in it. She's also drinking like a parched camel. I've put some electrolytes in their water, but I'm wondering if I should get her some vitamins? I checked that page that has all the poo pictures, and the closest I can match it to is the watery one where it says hens will drink a lot and make a lot of poo to try and cool off. The garage where they sleep at night is insulated, but it still gets cool on the floor where their carrier is. When they're outside, they almost always have water (sometimes they tip the dish over and we have to refill it) and I try not to put them in too much direct sunlight.
Hector, if that story is true, it's no wonder the hen died. Ouch!

Got the necropsy result back from the vet diagnostic lab. Basically, they didn't find anything in the one chick as far as infectious disease goes, but they are saying I need to have more of the group checked and that one chick is not a good enough sample to be anything close to definitive. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, as the case may be), none of the others have died. The diagnostic lab as well as the poultry specialist seem to agree on the opinion that it was probably viral, but highly unlikely pullorum. They also say it is highy unlikely they caught anything they would be carriers of now.
It's kind of a relief, but I sure wish we could have found something more definitive. The poultry specialist said the best way to be absolutely sure is simply to cull all the chicks in that quarantined group.
I'm just not sure I am up to that.

Lisa, I've found that picking them up and holding them close to you while talking to them and stroking their back/chest/head sometimes helps. If you have a small stuffed animal, you could also try putting that in with her. It's not something I have much experience with, either. I usually have a buddy with my chicks because it tugs my heartstrings to hear them crying.
corvidae, that's frustrating but good, too. I'm glad to hear that you haven't lost any more chicks, and that there's a very good chance it wasn't pullorum. Let's hope things move on the up and up for you and get better!
