Selling 5 that I hatched smile.png The 3 blue orps, 2 blrw, the older lone splash blue wyandotte with frizzly feathers that is the sibling to the ones Red bought. I cannot believe I can keep that straight, I hope that makes sense ! I would have kept the splash you sent too but it was getting terrorized. Mine here were just too much older or younger, older group would not accept it and It was way mean to the babies....and way too lonely (loud) by itself so I felt sorry for the poor baby. Now it is close so we can see how she/he turns out smile.png

That splash is my little friend...I let her out to run  around the yard and she went to town on the grass yesterday. then ran right into my hand so I could put her away. Jessi thinks it is cool to have a chick ride around on her shoulder.

I'm so glad that little one is doing better at your place. It really sounds like she's bonded with your family smile.png When I would let her out with my teens to free range, they'd gorge themselves on grass and bugs. She really liked it when she found a huge worm and could only swallow it halfway - then my BO decided to "share". I'll be interested to see what that splash looks like when she is older. She was so very cute!

To be honest this is the first one I have really bonded with. I like them and all but never like this.

Hooray for chicken bonding! ya.gif

I seem to bond with every chicken I meet. My kids tease me because I keep a box in my car 'in case I meet a chicken that needs me'. And I have a five dollar bill in my visor that says "chickn money" on the edge of it lol But that one is saved for your house blujems, in case I need a quick chicken fix from you guys haha gig.gif

Chickens really are much more fun when they are well socialized and like the humans don't ya think? I try to maul them to death when little so they do not mind me picking them up and hauling them around the yard with me. My son went to go to school today and put his jacket on, and woops! There was a spot of chicken poo on the hood so I sent him to change. WE were laughing about it, he had been out in the coop with a few on his shoulder last night. Guess I missed that when he came in. I always send him to wash up, but the jacket got past Mom. My BR is my little teacher's pet. She inspects the nests for eggs, and comes out of the coop and hollers at me when there is an egg, it is so funny. I bring her out a mealy worm or two when I get the egg and tell her good girl. She probably drives the other girls nuts, because when they are laying she stands right there next to them, staring underneath them. As soon as they lay she runs out and hollers. I think she started this because she knew the magic hand was going to reach in and get the egg and she would wait by the egg door for me to reach in and get the egg and pet her when she was little. Now she does not want to wait for me, she hollers immediately, "get out here mom!" It is so silly, but I think it is way cute smile.png

That is really funny and cute!

I remember that when one of my hens would lay an egg, I would often have several of the hens also sing the egg song to announce it.

I'm starting to get excited for home grown eggs again. I've owned chickens now again for almost 5 or so months. Soon I'll get an egg. Soon. Well, not that soon. My two oldest chicks look like they're still at least a month away.

Lisa, that's pretty funny about your BR. My BR was very quick about being in the nest box - in 'n out - but if someone else was in there first, she'd pace outside of the box and complain loudly (well, loudly for her) I think I've mentioned this before, sorry. But I actually stood there one time and watched the whole thing play out.

"MOM! Cindy's hogging the box! I need to gooooooo!" (Cindy being my leghorn, not our dear Cynthia wink.png)

None of my girls ever sing the egg song, though. At least not when I've been around sad.png That's one reason why I'm happy when I get loud, mouthy chicks big_smile.png They better sing for me! Momma wants to be serenaded by the egg layers!

Ohhh yeah, Lisa, I love the way you termed that whole handling chicks thing. Mauling. Hehehe maybe I should maul mine? I usually just pick them up and talk to them while they perch on my hand and I stroke their backs. Perhaps they need more lovin's, no?

Oh boy, fail. My brain is broken. I had to sit there for a second and think how to spell 'perch' and if there was a different spelling used for the fish. Ugh, can I have a nap today?

Red, mine do not sing the egg song either. When they lay they are quiet and lay low....but they are noisy when someone else is trying to lay in the favorite nest and one wants a turn.....wow they are loud!

Sasha, am getting a pm off to you about Saturday.. let me know if it works smile.png

Ok so here is the list for Chickenstock, make sure I have everything!

Red---2 Icelandic chicks from Birdguy
Donna---look for good stock Welsummers, may want a mating pair, and look for Isbars---call/text pics first
Cindy--Blue Wheaten Ameraucans pullet/chick about 8 weeks old
Sasha--Blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullet/chick about 8 weeks old, maybe some other fun things smile.png
Lisa--- Blue Wheaten Ameraucana Pullets (2) 4 months old, Marans chicks if good dark egg layers..., hopefully I will pick up a huge box of self control
so nothing else comes home with me.

Is that right? Seems like I am forgetting something. Let me know if there is anything else to watch for.
