I couldn't resist. I went to the school to mess with the focus on the camera. Then, I figured it'd been 24 hours, so I'd help the chick a bit. I peeled away some of the egg, leaving the membrane intact. I also moistened the membrane a little because it was a little crisp where pip had occurred.

Hatching at this point should be easy. Crossing my fingers she hatches while I'm picking up the big kids from school AND the class kids get to watch.

Here's Emily, the chick that hatched from the dark olive egg.

Wendy are you there at the school?  It looks like little one is trying pretty hard at times.  Was there a lot of blood?  You have become quite the expert at this.  It looks good and active!

Here are the pictures I said I would get of my baby Exchequer..(I helped it out btw)..and a pic of the teen one outside with the big girls..and the Speckled Sussex, and the blue Ameraucana.  Oh, and the Pencil.. What do you think Brad..looking like your girl?  She's huge!

  001.JPG

I can see some dark coming in those pin feather002.JPG

I can see some dark coming in those pin feathers already..can't see in the picture.002.JPG

I think this one will have more spots than the other that is outside.  Hope this is a girl. :)005.JPG

This I'm pretty sure is a girl, she hasn't near the comb the other two did. 007.JPG

Preening because mom is talking to her.008.JPG

The Pencil..cracks us all up during her gangly stage.Only about 4 and a half months old. There's the NH in the back ground, the red one.  She's pretty big too.009.JPG

Have to show a few pics of my Speckled Sussex..I really like her.  This is the lavenders buddy, I can tell she misses her. She has started hanging around with the black Am.011.JPG

She hangs with the Ameraucana, unless~I am in the coop, then she follows me around like a puppy dog.  smile.png016.JPG

The Exchequer and the blue Ameraucana teen.017.JPG

One more of the Sussex with her tail more up..and, hoping the tail on that blue looks more like a girl than the last picture of her tail while eating!

The girls will be cooped up for a while. They are putting up new fence all around the side of our property. That means all in the back yard.  Will be nice when it's done, but my chickens aren't liking being kept inside the run.

What breed is the pencil?  She is very pretty,  I have a Sussex named Sweety.  She is my favorite chicken.  She likes to ride on my shoulder.  When I bend over she jumps right up.  When I sit down she come and jumps in my lap.  Quite a character.

I forgot to say that when I was painting the coops she was a big help.  She has little bits of pink and blue paint mixed in her feathers so her speckles are really colorful.  My Lavender Americana has a big spot of pink paint on her back.  I had hoped to show her at the fair.  I guess I had better see about getting the paint off.

You get nice sized eggs from them, and they lay almost as often as the white leghorn, but I hear not quite as often..more like 6 eggs a week instead of 7.  Oh well!

Wow, what a pretty bird!! Are they as flighty as the white leghorns??
