Oh shucks Ann, and Wendy..thanks!   I am a kid at heart.  I guess it's all the grand kids keeping me silly.  Having Over 32 kids come around off and on, which makes it often, can do that to a person..I have teen grand kids..so I like using "some" of the new "cool" words they use..have to say though, the word cool, was used  back in my day.

Moriah, you are yet another sweet person from our BYC thread that I've had the opportunity to meet.  You have a beautiful smile. A sweet presence about you.  Thank you for posting a picture of the blue.  Did you think of a name yet?  lol...  I'm happy that she is getting along, she was sweet here. She ran with the Exchequer mostly, but also the larger pullets at times.

Guess what Ann did?  Yep, she told me about her beautiful green, and very blue egg she gets.  I said, hey, you don't live far from me! tongue.png  We talk a bit. She says, I should have brought some eggs for you.   LOL..I told her it's a good thing she didn't mention those eggs before she came!  I am going to take you up on those pretty eggs come fall though.  Hope you are getting more pretty blue eggs from this girl by then.  Yaay, I have a close chicken friend with pretty eggs...finally, someone closer!

Sad note.  My little black Silkie didn't make it.  :(     I tried every day and night feeding her.  She just wouldn't even grow any more.  She was so tiny.  It was something I was expecting by the time I found her though.  I had told Ann about her.  She was still ok when you left Ann, so it was quite later in the afternoon that I found her..and that was fast, because she was standing in the early afternoon, just with her little head drooped.  So, it must have happened fast, which I'm grateful for, because I kept going to check on her.  Boy you get close to the little stinkers you work with.  I have kept a few in the past that I worked with and they made it through.  In fact, my Exchequer was one I had to work with, the older one outside.  She is growing up fast now.  She was very small/tiny.  A big piggy now.  :)

Sundance, can't wait for pictures.  We will be posting at the same time..at least I hope I am.  I only have those 4 showgirls in there.  Let's cross fingers for each other.

So my newest little Icelandic seems to be feeling under the weather. She appeared perfectly healthy when I picked her up from Cynthia, so I'm wondering if it was something brought on by the stress of being moved? (I'd like to insert here that ALL of Cynthia's birds were very healthy, so not blaming her in the least)

Dalooras, you may want to quarantine your new chicks for a bit, just in case. They were all in with her, and I'd feel awful if I sent home a bug to your flock.

So far, the most noticeable thing about my little one is that she keeps closing her eyes, even when standing up and cheeping. And she cheeps a lot. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was similar to when little kids cry because they don't feel good. I've started her on vitamins and have been watching to make sure she gets food and water and enough heat/coolness. If she's not improved by late tonight, I'm taking her off the vitamins and putting her on medicated feed. I need to go research the signs of Marek's disease now. I'm probably jumping to conclusions here, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

And Cynthia, so sorry to hear about your little silkie. hugs.gif

Cynthia, I'm so sorry about your little silkie. That's really sad.  I know if she had any hope of making it, it was with you.

Red, maybe your new chick is just mourning leaving Cynthia's? That's what my lavender did...

I hope so. She only started crying after Dalooras's hubby came and picked up the chicks I was babysitting yesterday. I looked up the symptoms of Marek's, and I don't think it's that. Still keeping an eye on her.

Oh no!  Another tiny tot.  She was pretty small from the start.  Is she just peeping lots?  Drooping her head?  She sure was a little piggy while she was here, and still small.  Man, I hope she makes it.

Maraks??   They don't get that until they are around 6 weeks old, if they are going to get it.   Looks like it's caused by bad sanitation.  I keep their area pretty clean.  I really don't think it's that.  I am thinking it's because of her size.  So tiny.  My other chicks that were with her are doing fine. I also have two of the white mixes, and two Silkies that were with her, they are fine.  Just the black one, tiny and didn't grow.

I wouldn't suggest putting her on medicated feed, especially if she is just stressed.  That is something I only use for about 3 or 4 days because it is so hard on their tummies.  Diarrhea starts happening.  I wouldn't mess with giving vitamins now either.  Just watch her.  Make sure she has plenty of water and food, and you can give her some yolk from a boiled egg. Protein is good for them when they are down.

Dalooras..let me know how your babies are doing!

My DH said that the chicks seemed a little droopy last night, but after some good sleep they seem perfectly normal today....  I've noticed chicks seem to be kind of sensitive to lots of change, hopefully it's just that!!

DH, 3 boys under 8;  Birds:  French Blue/Black CM's, BW/Splash Ameracaunas, EE's,OE's, bantam cochin calico project, assorted laying hens.  Next spring (2014): Crested Cream Legbar, Wheaten Maran and American White Bresse hatching eggs...   Wish List: enough space for 10 more breeds

Mine are still fine, and I called the other gal that bought the others.  She says hers are fine, and they were with the Icelandic.  I had the Icelandic in with them because she was so small, she needed to be with smaller babies.  She was older, but was smaller.  Anyway, the gal said they have been doing great, but I thought I would check.

    Keep me posted.  :)
