I tend to kill threads, even when I post pics of day old fuzzy butts.

I'd like to say "the frankenfeeder and ghetto coop were before I was associated with BYC!" but I don't think it would have made much difference. roll

If there is one thing I got from my dad (besides my striking good looks and amazing humility) it is the weakness of function over form... translation: "Who cares what it looks like if you it is cheap, quick, and easy and gets the job done!?"

Some of these coops aren't ugly at all!

O.K., this is a shot from the American Memory Collection of the Library of Congress:  http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/index.html

Just
do a search for chicken coops and you might find a relative's contribution to the art.  This is my favorite.  It was taken by Russell Lee, near El Indio Texas in 1939.  It is titled `Chicken Roosts' (predator proofing?).  Looks like an Alexander Calder on acid and leaves the coyotes flummoxed (righteous).

There is form, and there is function.  That which possesses beautiful form is that which functions beautifully.

Glad to see I'm not the only one using an old covered cat box for a nest box.

It's perfect size and prevented it from becoming landfill material!!

One thing is for sure. The price of a dead hen is a dead pred.
