Better get that bucket on just in case. It's been revamped to fit the Fiord and whoever did it didn't did it very well. The holes don't line up so very good. somad.gif

Maybe it was the same folks that made the sheds Carol has been wrestling with?  T

@ Elaine- OMG! Those prices are rediculious!  The Adoption Guarantee Fund?  That is like penalizing the ugly dogs for not being "highly adoptable"!  It's just another way for them to get more money. Why in the world did they not build a run instead of heating the coop?  Oh wait...money...I should have known better.

Had a nice hatch this weekend 13 out of 20, not bad for I can never get the eggs till I get home and they were pretty cold by 5:30 at night.  Neighbor girl has been over a couple times to see them she is 4.  I think we are just as excited as her this is the first hatch this year.

Thanks for the interesting info on keeping the incubator temp on the low side for the possibility of my hes, whatever helps I will try.

During night of 21 the fan quite working and at 4am I heard one just hatched out, I got up and the temp was down to 91, can't believe 4 more still hatched pretty amazing when everyone stress over 1 degree.

unkadan & FT, I grew up just south of Star Lake. One of my good HS friends lived there and I could take a little dirt rd up to Hwy N to get to her house. Only in the summer though, wasn't plowed good enough in winter for a 2WD S-10!  Wonder if Bill the owner would sell some Langshan hatching eggs?? I like how those birds look.

ChixChix (2Chix for short) if the board balks at changing the ordinance, try getting a variance. I would think that would be agreeable, since you have so few neighbors.

TO, you have the most interesting ways of accumulating birds. When you started out with 'A lawyer in Chicago called', I thought 'Oh No what happened?!'  lol.png

Dont you find it odd that people will put more work into choosing their mechanic or house contractor than they will into choosing the person who grows their food?

Hi All,  my puter was down since yesterday morning.. 7 pages to read to catch up..

this morning I let the birds loose and lo and behold, there were two baby geese with them.. ??WTH ??  the door of their pen got pushed open and they and all the quail were loose..  so I caught all the  quail (5) and the last 2 goslings .. put the quails into the small lean-to pen .. turned the baby geese loose with the flock of gooses..  they all seemed pleases with the changes..

I stood around outside , after chores , with the camera..  took a few pictures..  the peacock was strutting his stuff,,,, until I brought the camera out..  I still got a shot of the small peacock, with the  scraggly tail..

I have the heater turned on the tractor,  it is frozen yet..  I just might need it tomorrow..

I do keep birds in those pens sometimes during the winter.. I stack hay bales all around to insulate them, somewhat..  a year ago, I kept 10 roosters in one of the pens.. no hay bales,  they did just fine.. no frozen combs or anything..  I just put a thick layer of straw on the bottom to keep it warmer on their feet..

right now I have one full of Delaware hens, and the other has all the Barred Rock hens and their rooster..  I am getting an egg a day from the BR's ..  I am not giving any of them layer ration.. I am "purifying" them for when I will start collecting eggs for the incubator. in about 2 weeks or so....  I took pictures of them today..

for some odd reason, whenever I take new pictures, I cannot get them to come up on my puter.

have to ask DD#2 how she does that..

Delivered a few dozen eggs today.

Yep the Black Langshans are a foundation breed also. i almost bought some white ones at a meet one year. Just not enough room to have some of each...maybe someday.

My blue ameraucana are sarting to lay pretty good. The last dozen of eggs had 4 blue ones in it. I might hatch some of those out after the fool's hatch. My roo is black and the hens are blue.

We get to watch Monday Night At Daytona.....wee.gif
