ChixChix (2Chix for short) if the board balks at changing the ordinance, try getting a variance. I would think that would be agreeable, since you have so few neighbors.

TO, you have the most interesting ways of accumulating birds. When you started out with 'A lawyer in Chicago called', I thought 'Oh No what happened?!'  lol.png

Amy I'll be talking to him this week, I'll ask and let you know. I need a Langshan rooster for the 3 pullets I have,,,2 look good from what I see posted on the forums here. I'll get the scoop from him on where he got the birds he's using.

Jim what do you feed those breeder birds?

umm Doc,,,thanks for bringing this storm,,,,grrrrrrrsmack.gif NEVER put that snow shovel away early (or take the loader off)

thanks unkadan!

Dont you find it odd that people will put more work into choosing their mechanic or house contractor than they will into choosing the person who grows their food?

Cind: FYI_Chantix works great if you take it like your suppossed to. Couple things we  learned-eat something when taking it, try not to take it too late in the day, and it takes up to 10 days before its fully in your system. Its not like the other products-doesnt make things taste nasty-just takes the urge away. (My biggest problem is remembering to take it regularly)-and dont stop taking it too soon-give it a couple months after you quit. GL!

MLH: I lived in San Fran Bay Area and the only thing I miss from out there is the ocean. I moved back here for the kids (School/finanaces/cost of living) and still very happy with my choice 12 yrs later!

Jim: You mentioned your not giving your hens any layer ration as your "purifying" them-now you have me curious-what does this mean?

ugh... not sure about my splash silkie right now. Need to hook up my video camera in the basement I think. So I have 4 silkies, although one does not lay. We have gotten 2 eggs in same day, but mostly get one every to every other day. Figure that my black which has been laying for a while is one of the culprits, but have these 6 month olds and thought the splash was a roo and the white a hen. But today my daughter brought up an egg and within 10 minutes I heard the egg song and went down to their winter home and saw the splash was doing it.... so not sure if it was just a "talk"or the egg song delayed or what...

So the splash has a crazy hair poof(although not sure if it is chewed on or not), red wattles( or as red as they get for silkies) and not a huge comb. Definetly bigger than the other that was hatched at same time. Big size difference.

I will attach a pic... but had been hoping this pretty boy was a roo so we could have some silkie babies! So I might be looking for a gentle silkie roo, preferably a blue or splash!

Someone called the store today about 2 hens that suddenly died. She had recently switched them to the Purina omega 3 feed because they were starting to lay. She was also mixing grit in with their feed. She found 2 dead recently and one had blood on its butt feathers. My first thought was coccidiosis or prolapse. I told her not to mix the grit in the food, just offer free choice and to give an antibiotic in the water. Any other ideas?

Ang-Ahhh.....You lived in the uber expensive part of CA.  Really any costal area that is worth it's salt in CA is expensive.  Expect Long Beach. The nice areas of LB are $$$$$ but the bad areas of LB even the cops don't go into at night.  The problem is that you can have a nice area butt right up against a bad area. The DMV in LB had bullet proof glass that all the workes worked behind.

LA can be like that but most of the bad seed areas are more inland.  Although the San Fernando Valley can have horrible gang wars.

Ventura has Oxnard and Port Hueneme that are not so good. I think they are the only cities in CA that are right on the ocean and complete barrios.  Also the "Boulivard" in Ventura is nasty.  We looked at a house in that area when we were looking to buy our first home.  The house across the street from the one we were looking at had crime scene tape wrapped around the porch. No joking! I did not get out of the car.

Where in the Bay Area did you live if you don't mind me asking?  I have an older brother who lives in Monterey.  Has forever.  He loves it but then he is a surfer and he owns a boat and fishes every chance he gets.

Yeah I have to say, I have days where I miss the ocean too.  But we had to work so hard just to squeek by that we almost never went to enjoy it.  I'm glad your happy here in WI and you could escape while the escaping was good!!

I am feeding the breeders just ground oats and corn.. I really do not want them laying eggs now..

In about a week I will start feeding them a laying ration..  then, when they start laying eggs, I will put them (eggs)  all into the incubators..

"purifying" is my word..  These hens have been cooped up with several mixed breeds of roosters all winter..  Now I am keeping them isolated from those roosters to make sure that there will be no "surprise" eggs when they start laying ..  I want purebreds..

I better go out and see if the tractor is thawed out..
