FT, nice pics,,,,, historic place here in Vilas County

Bill lives on the acreage somewhere, his coop is on top of the hill,,,,a converted building about 14X25' overlooks the lake but hard to see from the lodge. He had his roosters in a porch off of  another garage opposite the rental house(tenants must love chickens) that sits up there. He mentioned closing that in and I would almost guess he expands into that second garage. We did talk about the roosters and the echo from the crowing in the summer,,,

I think he lurks on this site maybe he'll chime in after seeing the free advertising,,,heh heh

Raim, the recipe I use for the upside down cake is from The Cake Bible (thanks again TO!), and you bake it in a cast iron skillet. It is so DANG good! I have even drizzled it with rum (it is to die for like that). Anyway, here you go:

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

1 can pineapple rings

1 jar cherries (about 14)

4 T butter

1/2 c packed brown sugar

1/4 c pecan halves

3 egg yolks (I just use 2 eggs)

1/2 c sour cream

1 t vanilla

1 1/2c sifted cake flour

3/4 c sugar

3/4 t baking powder

1/4 t baking soda

1/4 t salt

9 T butter

Oven 350*. Drain pineapple and the cherries. Using a 10 inch iron skillet, melt the 4 T butter and the brown sugar. Stir together until well combined and remove from heat. Place the pineapple rings in the pan and place the cherries in the centers of the rings. Cut remaining rings in half and line the sides of the pan with the halved rings, and once again place a cherry in the center of the halved rings. Tuck pecans into any gaps between the fruit. Combine the eggs, vanilla, and 1/4 c sour cream in a separate bowl and set aside. In a mixer, combine the dry ingredients. Add to the flour mix the 9 T softened butter and then the rest of the sour cream. Add the egg mix to the flour mix in three batches, scraping down the sides of the bowl after each addition. Once mixed, spread the batter out on top of the fruit in the skillet with a spatula. Bake for 40-50 min (until toothpick comes out clean and cake springs back when lightly pressed in center). When cake tests done, run a small knife or metal spatula around the edge of the cake and immediately invert onto serving platter. Allow pan to sit upside down for a few minutes to allow any stuck fruit to dislodge (you may have to scrape it out). Cut and enjoy! Keeps three days in the fridge, but I have never had one last long enough to make it to the fridge!

Tomorrow is DH's birthday! One more year before the big 40! I cannot believe we have been together for so long...... 22 years is a long time. Taking him to test drive the car for me.... I hope the snow holds off a bit so we have clear sailing. I am NOT looking forward to driving in to work on Wed. that's for sure! The crazies on 41 will be all over the place!

hi again, Robin, if you look at the picture, there are 2 diagonal braces running from the legs up to the roof.  that is to keep the center from sagging..sort of like a truss  I have only a 2x4 spanning the 10 feet.

If you ever get to the Rothschild mall , just off hwy 29..  I buuilt the Cost Cutters hair stylist shop in there..  I built a truss hanging off the roof so they don't have any obstructions in their storefront.  I built 10 of those Cost Cutters all over the North half of this state..

good thought , though..    I do have tarps draped over the roof and down the backside for added wind and rain protection.. they last about 2 years and then the sun eats them up.  I have it designed so that the blue Menard's tarps fit exactly so I can use screws in the grommet holes to attach them...

and the reason I was going to make them shorter, was because the rear wheels of the tractor just barely stay on the ground with these heavy 10 footers..

the reason I went with the 10 footers in the first place was because the racks were already assembled as 4ft x 10ft..

.....jiminwisc...........

Oh Oh, Maybe I should go back an edit my posts about the prices !!! LOL I did change my mind though after we ate. The food was all very good. Just a hint though, take debit cards, I would of had the steak and shrimp !!! Just sayin !! lol

I knew I felt a connection when I was there !!! Owned by another chicken fancier !! Cool !!! What is his username btw?

Unkadan, where did you say you are located now?

I'm over here in the township of Nashville. I've been coming up to Northern WI to our family cabin for 48 years. Monico to be exact. Nice little lake but since they put a public boat landing in the fishing sucks there.

All that talk about CA and the police tape thought I would mention the yellow tape was surrounding Weasels !!! LOL For any of you guys that don't know what Weasels is. It is a Gentlemens club with the naughty dancers on HWY 45N. Thought that was funny to see !!! Must have missed it on the news or paper, wonder why they are closed ? Not that I'm complaining !!!

Wish I wouldn't have seen the lankshans or what ever you call them. They are pretty birds but I don't need any more !!!

Watching the Snowmobiler's.

IMG_1039.JPG

Showing Grandpa the leap Frog Puppy and Elmo Auntie Sandi just gave her !!! She loves Elmo can you tell !!!

Eating her grilled cheese and fries in the Lodge Restaurant. Washing it down with some Moooo Juice !! Followed by a swim in the tub.

IMG_1088.JPG Auntie Sandi brought 5 dozen eggies. When Addie saw them she said "pretty" and I opened each carton to show her all of the different colors. Each time she said "pretty". Then she picked two of them up and just as my sister (Grandma) said watch out !!! Addie smacked them together !!!! And guess what they didn't break !!!! Wow, Good thing Or I'd catch h3ll from Mom. Grabbed them away from her while my sister got a hard boiled egg from the fridge to keep Addie from crying !!! She likes eggs !! That's my girl !!!  Then on to a bedtime story, with Elmo. Bedtime at last !!

My other niece said she was saying Kitty because they were working on it in the morning, I said oh no, she was saying Pretty and my sister agreed !!!! That made me smile, my eggs got Addies approval !!!

it was a long afternoon !!! But well worth it !!! Don't know how you young ones do this all day !!!! And for some of you 5 !!!!!!!

Sounds like an enchanting evening with Addie, FT. She is an absolute doll! I had to chuckle about Auntie Sandi. I have one of those too! And she's my favorite aunt too. Her & my uncle had a farm down in Union Grove with lots of chickens, ducks, geese & some horses. That was always my favorite place to visit when I was a kid. Nice pics too. (I can see why the prices were so high). Isn't darn near everything in ER, though? They have to pay for all those log buildings somehow, I guess.

Unk, those are some beautiful birds you've got there. I hate that the pretty blue/green sheen is so hard to photograph.

See Raim? You're not the only one that's been procrastinating on taking your tree down?  LOL!

Jim, you've only been married 22 years?

Just killing some time waiting for the race to start back up. Just when you think you've seen it all. Wow!

Sorry. The smilies aren't working for me tonight. Time to reboot, I guess. Sweet dreams, all!
