Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 1852

where some people make a mistake when training a dog is they think a dog has "rights"..

a dog has no rights..   a dog is 100% at the will of it's owner..  If the owner allows something, or disallows something,, the dog had better comply..

I was telling my brother about what some people had mentioned their dogs had maimed or/and killed..  he said,  "and that dog is still alive ?"

zero tolerance..

you cannot allow a puppy to growl over food..  it is "cute" at the time..  but when he growls at a toddler, cute is all done..

a dog should never be let in when it barks.. soon you will be a door slave..  make the dog wait at least 15 minutes after it quits barking, then let it in..   It does work..  they do learn..  my dog barks and then lays down and shuts up until I decide to let him in..

just saying..

Hey guys!

Lot happening on the homestead! Hunter is crawling, saying da da roll.png and clapping and waving, standing also. Damien is getting taller and smarter by the day. Work is work. The house is in shambles. We sign the papers next Saturday to put it up on the market. Got pre approved by the bank. Been reading so much about pigs and cows I could puke.

I also gave up cleaning for lent smile.png actually, all my cleaning supplies are packed up so that's my excuse!

TSC has chicks in and I wanted to buy some buff orps buuuut, i need to wait until after we move. The house we love is still on the market and we will be putting in an offer on contingency that we sell our home. I got a long list of winter projects for DH to do (he's unemployed for a month or so every winter) including a chicken coop, cold frame, greenhouse, raised beds....he's gonna looooove me! Haha!

Well time to get back to painting. I hope everyone is doing fine!! I miss you guys!

Morning all,

Little chilly in the house, feels good !!! I did have to close one of the bedroom windows last night.  The draft above my head was a bit to much !!

Well, another trip tot he feed store is in the plans for today. TG the snow is melting so the chickens can start foraging !!

Oh and DrHa, I only paid shipping on the silkie eggs that are coming in todays mail. The seller owed me eggs because she sent me some silkies that had been crossed with a Cochin and the partridge had HUGE lumpy combs and single combs (which is a no no with silkies) and they were advertised as show quality !!! She told me to remind her when I was ready for more eggs that she would send them for the cost of shipping.

I wouldn't have gotten them if they weren't lavenders and lavender splits. I'm still trying to get my lavender silkies going.

And as for the Lavender Orps, well, that is BigFam and CC's fault. They signed me up for the Luscious Lavender Ladies Club of WI and I'm president. So i guess I have to have some lavenders. And Missy, (Tomski's former LO hen) quit laying now that she has done the 2 minute deed with Mr lavender !! I was going to say 3 minute deed but that would make BigFam jealous !!!

So there you have it in an egg shell !!! Did I mention the school in Antigo has 31 green and blue eggs to hatch ? (sorry 2 are white polish cross, which could be part Ameracauna)(should be interesting)

So like I said Some of YOU are hatching and chicken addicts. I never said I had a problem !!! gig.gif

Lost my cel phone last night, think it might be buried in the truck someplace !!! Crap, I hate driving to town without it.

Well my blood is all drained! Had the tech take a couple extra tubes and requested a few other tests right away...no sense going back to get stuck again!

FT I was going to say the same thing...in order to go to an "Anonymous" meeting the first step is to agree that you have the problem...so those groups wont have US in them now will they?  LOL!

I am on the middle ground on the dog thing...RAIM--you will always have that problem when a dog feels that the bird (or squirrel or...) is invading THEIR territory.  But since dogs are smarter than chickens, perhaps that is where you should start.  Alternatively--you could put tops on your chicken runs. I am assuming the dog run is too big for that! hugs.gif I feel for you...although the JRT is learning ever so slowly!  We can actually call her off now when she gets in the hunting mode! ya.gif

With that, I better get my but to work...I think I will change into shorts first though!  TErri O

Thought I should Say Hi to everyone,well..........Hi frow.gif

I am married and we have an awesome daughter who is 14 now...( wow time flies)

we have 10 acres out in the middle of nowhere and just love it that way.

We also have 40 chickens (with a couple roos in there) and they are now almost 5 weeks old, Plus...7 horses, 2 goats, 4 cats, 2 dogs.

phew did i miss anyone? OK I think that is everyone.

I have raised meat birds, yum and had chickens awhile back but life got in the way and gave them to a great couple.

now we are able to have chickens again. love to watch them roam around the yard.

I have been trying to keep a handle on the roos as far as picking them up from the beginning so i won't have to watch my back.

Well....... that's the plan...... we'll see.

At the moment we are working on our new larger coop. With spring break happening here, we will now have all hands on deck to help.

I will be feeding my chicks whole grains as soon as they are big enough. I do grind the larger grains at the moment.

Well.... have to go do some chores now.

Looking forward to meet you all.

welcome-byc.gif WI FarmChick! We're glad you're here, and will be giving you a shorter handle. WIFC, there. Hey, that's a radio station outta Appleton, lol.png

Dont you find it odd that people will put more work into choosing their mechanic or house contractor than they will into choosing the person who grows their food?

Afternoon All!

Just came in from cleaning the coop some to drink some water and take a quick break.  I have to move the rabbits out to get everything really clean out there!

What'd I miss?  I did not read to catch up on the happenings so sorry if some one asked me a direct question that I missed.

SG's kids are due to hatch the 17th- St. Patricks Day.  I have my doubts though. I found her off the nest the this morning and the eggs were not warm.  I have no idea what happened but something got her upset and she switched nests, which was really strange.  Got her back on the right one but I won't know if any harm was done until Saturday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.....

Welcome to the newbies!  (right? we have newbies correct?)

I'm going to the Beaver Dam Swap on Sunday!! TO are you still going?

Ok, gotta get more done....
