Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 1988

Hi all!

BBP... thanks about the Freedom Rangers. I'll look into them but I thought they took longer.

raim... bet the kids will love their new digs!

H&R... I just found out an anti-egg eater trick from one of the guys I sold a rooster to. Sprinkle some baking soda on their feed. I tried it and it dose work! Must be something in it that they need.

Bf4... Congrats on getting the coop done!

mazo.... We have oil too to heat a boiler for radiant heat. Oil is up so much we heated all winter with wood! (Different system)

Bad news on the chicken front! When I went out to feed and water this afternoon Lacy was dead!  hit.gifShe was laying under the roost cold and stiff. She had no signs of illness, seemed just fine last night, DH said she seemed fine when he let them out this morning.  She just ...died.hu.gif She was the hen that hatched the last batch of chicks.

Speaking of hatching... as of 5pm... nothing from Storky's nest,

Well, still have stuff to do... night all!

Good Morning Everybody! Can tell it's spring a lot of stink finger goin around. lau.gif Cind sorry to hear about your hen your not alone. Found Bit*h dead yesterday morning. Knew it was coming and was gonna cull her before leaving for up nort so Donny didn't have to deal with it. Already forgot who was talking about hinging their window. I hinged mine on the top too from the inside then added hooks and eyes so they can be left open even in the rain. Works great! Tons to do today starting with making a bunch of B'fast burrito's. droolin.gif Good luck this morning Bigz!!!!! Smack a big one! CC if you right click on the smiley click cut then allow access it removes the smiley then add it back in if you want and the cursor shows up on the right side and you can type away. Gotta go!

Oh no... I called them my baby girls because they came running to see me whenever i was outside. These are my oldest two. My free rangers. And I'm going to post a pic as to how it got into the coop. I don't know WHAT kind of predator could do it. They ripped a board in half, two feet up off the ground.

I am incredibly sad... But ultra p!ssed too! I can totally see how people can shoot animals that try to kill their chickens....

do you really still heat with fuel oil?  I know it is a great BTU per gallon, but its cost is crazy!  When you look into replacing please talk to me.  I am on LP but have a 95% efficient with a air source heat pump! best investment I have made, it has made the break even mark with a conventional LP and air conditioner in 2 years, and is getting close to paying for itself.

I would LOVE to have central heating and air!  We burn wood for the most part and didn't use a single bit of oil from October 2010 - early March.  We got lazy though and filled the oil tank and have been using the oil as backup when it wasn't quite cold enough to build a fire, but to chilly to have no heat.  No a/c at all when we moved in and since bought 2 window units that at least make the downstairs portion of the house livable in the worst of summer.  Last summer was really hard for me because I was so pregnant.  (baby was born on sept 10th!) AND it was the first summer I'd EVER not had central air because we had just moved out here the fall before.  We rent this place though, so no C/A in our future.  I honestly can't complain.  We love this place and the opportunities that we have to live a country life that we could not afford if we had to buy!  Our landlord is also our neighbor, we get along wonderfully!  And we have learned a lot from him on gardening.  He even plows the garden and helps us rotatil it.  Which is a huge help!  Cause it's a really big garden!  But this house we rent was his parents since around 1920 and they he lived here until a couple of years ago when he built a new house next door... so he knows the land really well and is a huge resource of information!  Anyway, rabbit trailed from saying we heat with wood and would love central air!  LOL

Cindlady - I'm sorry about Lacy.  :(

raccoon is the only animal around here that can do that!  I have had them rip wire off a 4x4 post and it was stapled on! Get a live trap and get trapping, they will be back!
