Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2037

good morning..  the hatch is about over..45out of 58 hatched so far.. a few stragglers yet..  turkeys went 5 out of  6.

FYI>  the higher the humidity,,, the harder your incubator has to work to keep the temperature up..

why do you want it so high in the first place ?  Mine are all at +- 50%..  I have not had a sticky out of over 90 hatched..  (chickens and turkeys)

I have to add heat shield to the brooder pens.. this cold weather makes it just a bit cool in the coop.  It would help if the chicks didn't scrape away their hay bedding from the wire floor..

Had a pin-hole in the top of one of the gallon waterers.  I patched it with Gorilla Glue..   Gorilla Glue, WD40, Duct tape , J B Weld and electrician's tape..  the five  greatest tools ever invented..

Annie had to help one chick out of the shell  ..  it was comical as heII.. I should have taken a picture.

It pipped OK and all, but it stuck it's whole leg straight out of the zip.  it was in a real dilemma.

I didn't try to see if it could hop around like that..

Ken: Didn't know you worked with teens (I also thought you were a pastor) I used to be a foster parent in CA, then when I moved back to MN and went to college, I worked with kids with emotional/behavioral special needs for several years. Funny as just last week one of the teens found me on FB. (Sounds like hes jsut out of prision and using :-(-but he is still far ahead of where he was headed when i first met him!!!)

Update on mystery egg: Deliliah one of the broodys was sitting on a different nest last night and duck egg was cold. Once I removed the freshly laid eggs and put the duck egg under her-all was good. But I am worried how long she was off the egg. I think I will stick it under the other broody as she never moves nestboxes and is bound and determined to hatch out her golfball!!!

Good morning!  Dont have too much time...There was so much to catch up on!  DD26 and I ended up going out for supper--Prime Rib night down the road. It was delicious! That horse was a TN Walker FT.  (But should have been named a TN Pacer!) Yes he had a very nice head...

So I have to cook today and all I want to do is SLEEP!! No idea why I am so tired....must be this dreary weather we have been having.

Better get to it!  Have a good one!  Terri O

(PS) please keep the snow to yourselves!

Morning everyone!

new Chicken mom here.  Sooo, as I posted on the "vent gleet" thread, the 4 18 mo. old hens and rooster I rescued (what was I thinkng???)

is turning into a nightmarehit.gif.  One had gleet I didn't catch right away when I brought them home on Monday (all the hens had red butts~aka featherless as well as other loss)from the whole over-crowding nightmare in the barn thing and were so dirty I missed it.  Now, probably thanks to the Mister (men!) it's spreading, sigh.  Have Oxine on order (live in logging and potato country so No one around here even knew what I was talking about) but had plans on at least doing the Epsom salts butt bath and dosing this morning,

BUT (pun intended, hehehe)

IT'S SNOWING!!!  No barn, only a workshop near the coop, (and have a puppy and kitty in our little house so bringing sick birds inside is out of the question, at least in mass).  Planned on hauling warm water to the workshop and doing them one at a time but it's too cold!!!!!  Supposed to warm back up tomorrow.  Hang in there one more day ladies, sorry.  Oh well, at least they are eating GOOD FOOD now like little piggies and appear already to be growing back some feathers and hopefully putting on weight.  a neighbor of mine got some of the birds too (she already had a small flock, unlike me, who had to build an entire setup from scratch for this) and hers are already doing well.

Never mind~just talked to her on the phone and her's have developed gleet too, sigh.

I was a late bloomer (went through a divorce and moved make to MN with my kids-1 adopted & 1 foster/adopt)-started college in 2000-Graduated in 2005. During that time I worked P/T with EBD kids. I remember very well the cussing LOL Get this my primary clients were 8 & 14 guess which was the one that used words I had never heard before? The 8 yr old!!! His homelife was a mess :-(  (FYI My dad was a pastorwhile I was growing up)

Good afternoon!  Can imagine that person is going to get too many calls for week old birds at that price!   WOW!  Ken I have a feeling that you might get cussed at during both jobs...just one you hear and one you dont! wink.png

Work was OK...I made eggs Benedict, asparagus and fruit salad.  The English muffins got a bit overdone. No toaster so I had to toast them on a griddle.  I guess I let them for too long.  The people needed some help with cutting it all up.  The boss loved it though so I guess that was good.  Wait for a few weeks and I am making them cream puffs for desert...they will go crazy for that!  I decided to have a cuppa and a GF cupcake before I go out and see just how many ducklings and goslings I have today.  I was out doing chores this morning and there was much noise and crowding around the goose nests.  I know 3 nests are hatching for sure and one duck nest...sure wish I had the space ready for them....I will probably bring in a few ducklings and a gosling for company to the one I have in here.  The chick that is in with it is a weird one for sure...sleeps on it's back!  I always think it is dead when I see it.

Gonna hop over to the bash thread and do some updating...see y'all later!  Terri O  Oh yeah...I have to look up vent gleet too.
