Morning all!!
Got the bunnies and chickers taken care of this morning. I need to fluff the bedding in the coop and clean out a brooder.
We processed three of the meaties Saturday and I think DH is planning on processing the other three today. The first litter of rabbits have made weight so we'll process them this week. Then I'll breed the Champagnes.
Ben the Rooster is a BRAT! Like I said yesterday, he is thinking on becoming a Back Stabber. No problem, I've dealt with back stabbers in the past..However, when I gave him a lesson on the stupidity of the course of action, his little wheels were turning. Now he waits until my hands are full....Grrrr....
Dan-Thanks for the tomato info and link! Know I will have something to work on! I think I'll try growing them up this year. At least in one spot where I have a trellis to try it. The video link you posted was super helpful!
Marg-Floating (as in horses teeth) means taking a file or rasp and filing (floating) the teeth down. Horses chew in a side to side/figure 8 pattern. Has they age and their teeth wear, they form "points" and "hooks" that impede the natural chewing pattern. Some horses may have natural abnormalities or an injury that cause them to chew in an "off" manner and those horses need to be kept up on dental maintenance. Points and hooks are sharp and can cut into gums and cheeks and can form abnormal wear patterns. This causes horses pain when they chew and they do not to want to eat well and can cause them to loose weight because they "drop" their partially chewed feed.
When the vet or equine dentist floats a horses teeth, they use special equipment to file out the points, hooks, and patterns to make the horses teeth all level and even again. This makes the horse more comfortable both while eating and being ridden. Once the horse can chew well again, they usually gain weight rather quickly.
