Morning all!

Not much going on today....the critters are all fine.

I accidentally left a dog out last night.  Saxon aka Wookie Bear spent the night on the patio.  Oops....I cant' even remember when I let the dogs out last night! Oh well, he did not make a peep all night and barked twice this morning to be let in.  He was all proud of himself....He is none the worse for wear and I actually think he liked spending the night outside. It was cool and he loves the cold so he was all good! He was quite excited that he went "camping"!  Silly thing.

Well just wanted to get all caught up here! Love the pics that were posted!

BF4M-Is your chicken acting sick? Or does she have an eye injury?  Her eyes look clear and her nose is not runny....is she sneezing? Is she lethargic, acting punkie, feverish?

I would put her on Terramycin since it's a broader spectrum AB. If she is sick that should help and if it is an injury, then I would use an opthalmic eye ointment. I'd use Tylan if she does not respond to the terramycin.

You can also make a hospital area with a light to help warm her up if she is acting sick.  It's amazing what a little heat can do for an ill chicken. HTH

Ooooo I have an Icelandic egg pipping!! Guess I better go get the brooder set up...

Good Morning everyone. Not to much new going on here. The flock is out running about and enjoying themselves. DH came home early yestarday with his truck leaking coolant, luckily I was able to find where it was leaking and we just have to replace a hose. But until we do that he is taking my truck to work. ugh. Plus he needs to see how much gas milage it gets for him trip to Illinois to get his kids. So now he's all like "Well maybe I should just start driving your truck everyday and you can have mine" ugh ugh ugh  I like my truck, its low miles, good on gas, and ext cab. His on the other hand is decked out in mossy oak, stiff to drive, and guzzles the gas and 4 wheel drive. Oh well, as long as it saves us money on gas I guess I can handle it for now. I did tell him if it comes down to it, we will be selling his and buying another ext cab. We have to many kids for me to be stuck with a reg cab all the time.  Oh and his truck doesnt have a radio so today I'm going to go out there and put one in it. :) I would also like to fluff up my garden since it got all packed down from the rain. I want to plant some sweet onions and maybe next weekend get the rest of the stuff in there. As much as I would love to put everything in now I did that last year and we got one last frost that killed everything and I dont want to do that again. Well I guess that about it. Talk to ya'll later.

ETA: I forgot to mention we got a shock yestarday lol DH and I were standing on the porch watching the chickens and ducks and one of our Mallards took flight. I think it shocked her as well lol She flew abour 10 ft in the air for about 75 feet and landed then came waddling back to us like what the heck.

I was JUST going to ask you about those Icies! Thought they had to be due soon. Crossing my fingers for a great hatch for you!

Libby is not acting sick. THANK GOODNESS. I have had enough of sick chickens for a while! She is itching at her eye though, which is probably why it's getting worse. I do have terramycin here. But i can go buy the other stuff as well. Poor girl. She is not one who likes handling much, so I'm not going to be her best friend for the next several days. I'll look around for eye ointment, but I'm pretty sure all I have left is various drops for pink eye. Do I dare try one of those??

So far one is out of the egg and really LOUD!!! I sure hope I don't have just one hatch. It looks like one started a pip and quit....so we will see...fl.gif

Well, there are a couple ways to go.  If you can find/get the eye ointment, it's a terramycin O.O., I'd use that.  It will be pricey though since only one drug company now maufactures (sp) it.  You can flush her eye with sterile saline/eye rinse or drops to see if that helps as well.  That pink eye medicine...maybe...depends on what is in it.  While, I'm not opposed to trying it, you want to make sure there are no...nada...zippo... steroids in it.  If there are steroids in it...don't use it.  If she had a scratched cornea (which might be the case she it is irritating her) using an eye treatment with steriods can lead to blindness.

As long as she is not ill, then I would treat her eye as an injury case and not treat her with Terramycin or Tylan. If her eye becomes infected, then you will want to give her a shot of Penicillin. HTH

Ok I think I need to bite the bullet and take Loud Mouth out of the brooder...he or she is quite active....

ETA: Terramycin O.O. is an eye ointment with just terramycin in it.  No steroids.

good morning..

I don't think your chicken has an eye problem,, It looks more like ear to me..

for starters, I would go with something ingested instead of putting anything into eye for now..

some kind of inflamitory dosage..

the live trap was set off , but nothing inside..  I half expected that if it is a raccoon.. My large coon trap is at the BiL .. this trap is a medium, and might be too small for a good sized coon..

I forgot to close all the coops last night.. so far I found no piles of feathers..

the penned up peahen has laid no more eggs..  I think I will snatch the two she laid and put them into the bator..  she doesn't sit on them..  I will give her until tonight, and if she lays no egg I will set her free and watch her for a future nest..

have to leave in a short while to ride with Gramma to her Dr appointment..  she is not sick.. just a check-up and draw some blood..

...........jiminwisc.........

ETA:  check the chicken's wisdom teeth..  might be infected and causing the swelling..

Jim, I found a butcher guy near Brillion; he charges $2/bird. he got thru 15 in 2 hours, would have taken us 3x that. He has a scalder, plucker, and stainless steel sinks in his barn. On the crepes, ever try cottage cheese and maple syrup? Mmmmmmmm.

I suppose we'll have to hold an arm wrestling tournament at the Bash. Grand Prize: Cartman. (DrH, Eric??? Logan!! wink.png )

Good luck on the pipping eggs! Got some hatching under broodies today too. Glad Fattie is looking up BL4. DH had a cat named that, years ago. Still have her sister, Lowfat. lol.png

My guineas look like this. What color would that be FT? The Amish family ran a greenhouse; I don't know the particulars but one of their kids got seriously ill so they are moving back to his family in Ohio. They don't want to move, they like WI. He hopes someday they can come back. Nice fellow, quite chatty for an Amish guy!

I've decided I need to have a 2nd bator just for hatching. Actually, I just want to build a styro hatcher. I looked at Miss Prissy's homemade bator, does it really have to be this 'technical' if just used as a hatcher? http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/8510/chic-chick-bator-updated  Can I take a styro box, add a lightbulb, thermometer, hygrometer, and be good to go?? Advice Puh-lease! smile.png
