Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2123

Evening all!

Just catching up and such....the park across the street has started Classic Car Wednesday. Once a month for the rest of the spring and summer, we get to ogle vintage/.classic cars and motorcycles.  Lots of fun if you like that sort of thing...

So far 4 Iceland Chicks have hatched....I'm hoping for more

Amy-I'd have to double check but I believe that guinea is either a Pearl Gray or Lavender...depends on if it is gray or blue....I looks like gray to me but he is in the shade....

BF4M-Congrats on the duckling!!!

Tiki-I have raised the Cherokee Purples. My first were from seeds that were given to me but I've also purchased some already started. I think I've got Black Grimm's for this year among some others, I'd have to look....Cherokee's are very yummy, a nice big meaty tomato, however, mine tended to crack.  They get a nice deep purple color and are a deep red to purple on the inside.  They are great on sandwiches and hamburgers.

Now I have to go look at what I have....Black Grimm or Black Prince....either one will be a newbie for me to raise this year.  I also think I'll start some Silver Fir Tree Tomatoes this year....

Well, I'e missed half of The Middle.....Criminal Minds is on tonight!! Then CSI so I'd best go close the coop up for the night and get in my tv viewing spot before the dogs hog my space...

Later!!

Evening Everyone...sorry about Alice CC...sometimes chickens pull that early exit for no apparent reason....seems to be favorites, so many times.

Thanks for all the great pics.

Gonna get the gardens tilled friday morning again this year by a guy with a 4 foot tiller on his tractor, saves me a whole day of work for a reasonable price.

Suzies cousin stopped today and we used a come along to pull down the big elm that was hung up in the woods...needed to measure the tree and distance to another to figure out what we neede for chains....the tree was 6 feet around about 2 feet up from the base, and the other tree we hooked on was 35 feet away....ended up pulling it 29 feet before it came down....honest days work for sure.

Hope you can find a crittter watcher frenchie....you and the OM just have to make it somehow!

Hi All...

That guinea I believe is a standard French, at least from what I looked up.

Big Black Fluffy Butt is my other Cochin. Her and the one in the "pot" are 2 of the 4 Cochins (along with Prettyboy and George) that Jasmine hatched last year. I had a black roo that "something" grabbed last fall. The light roo is at a friends so I can "borrow" him if I want.

I'll get a better pic of her for you.

I read in my new book that if you slope your garden soil to a 5* towards the south (in northern hemisphere) it is the equivalent of setting the climate 300 miles south. Has anyone raised the Cherokee Purple heirloom tomatoe? Was wonderring about that one. Also, what would be a good tomater for salsa canning and a good pepper for mild/medium salsa? Anyone know how to plant bare root raspberries? I have 5 of them that need to go in the ground sooner.

As for the raspberries- before planting soak the roots for a couple of hours in a bucket of water, dig your holes 2 to 3 feet apart in the row.  put each plant in a hole and spread out the roots and backfill with the loose soil- make sure the crown is just below ground level.  pat the soil down around the plant and give each plant a gallon of water slowly.  We usually plant small plants that have popped up in the walk way between the rows.  Good Luck

There was a bear in our yard last night too. I let the dog chase him a little bit.
