Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2139

My chickens eat my clematis and no one has died. I also have burning bush and they don't touch it. The hawk took one of the older babies. I'm pretty sure it was a rooster. My call duck also lost one of her babies yesterday so now she's in a cage with the remaining one. We have Pullets: special blacks, browns (red sex links), Straight run: bantam cochins and OEGB in a few different colors. The browns and blacks are getting a little old to shove under a hen. They have been there since Tuesday.

Hey all

Busy day here so I just got caught up. Can't remember what to comment on!!  DH and I hit the Edgerton garage sales since we were having out city wide sales event.  Some sales were great others were not.  Then came home and mowed the lawn.

We are planning of going to see that new Johnny Depp movie Dark Shadows tonight in Stoughton.  Dinner and a movie at the little Cinema Cafe they have. Hopefully I can stay awake through it. BTB and Ichabod were absolutely wired last night and the kitchen was their play ground.  Kept me up half the night.outta one thing and into 20!

Well, I'd best be off to change into clothes that are not grass encrusted...

Have a great night!

Evening All...This has been some fantastic weather..hope it keeps up through next week end.

Hope your hen recovers mx...sorry i wasen't around to help out...good advice from everyone. They really are gentle fowl and can easily kill themselves flying into walls or fences....the heat helps alot.

You really did say that didn't you CC!  gig.gif

Cind if you still need plants there is a excellent country green house minutes from camp...suzie was there today for some bulk seeds and she said their plants like maters and peppers were beautiful, the 4 packs are 1.19...I can show you the way if needed.

I've been planting like crazy the last 2 days...early for me, so we will see.

Belated B day Doc...sounds like you had a grand one!

Hard to believe that we are having FFF tonight, cause of all the work getting done yesterday.

I gotta have my fish....wish I could get away for some white bass that are on the bite now...  hit.gif

We went out of town last night to the cities and put all the chickens into the barn.  They had previously been separated at night into two coops.  The one coop inside the barn had 3 adults and 6 teenagers.  The other coop had 21 younger teens, while fine for them to roost and sleep, NOT big enough for them to stay in for a full 24 hours.  I don't think, anyway.  The two groups free range together during the day. So we thought putting them all into the barn (not coop - just the open space barn itself) that they would be ok for the night and not try to kill each other.  There is more than enough space for them to move around and get away from an aggressive bird.  Well, we got a couple that are a little bloody.  One has a bit of a bloody cheek and another has a bloody toe.  Should I do anything?  My daughter got a washcloth and cleaned off the bloody toe, but I haven't seen the one with the bloody cheek yet, hubby just told me about it.

I just got back from my oldest DD soccer game, they won 2-1.

BBP- sorry bout the chick

EM-they will be okay. Just separate them as usual and the injured will heal fine.

Tonight we are having chicken & vegetable stew over hand-made biscuits. YUM!! The chicken was donated by Blinky (our 1st rooster). He is the only bird with a name to date.

He got his name after DH had cut his head off and the bird kept blinking.lau.gif

DH has painted the boards that we will use for the trim around the windows and nest box. He also has built the nest box in the garage, tomorrow we attach the nest box to the coop and cut out windows!!! The chicks will be happy with addition of sunlight and increased ventilation I think wink.png

Those strawberries look kinda gross. I don't thnk you should eat them. Because I have a kind and generous heart, I would take them off your hands. It would be hard, but I would do it for you!!! big_smile.pngwink.png

11 chicks. big_smile.png  what happens whenyou mix a leghorn (white OR brown) with an EE? IDK I'll tell you when one hatches lol  I see 2 Dels, 4 RIR (possible RIR/del), 1 EE, 1 Americana and

3 silkies.  celebrate.gifone has a little brown on it?? looking at the egg it came out of, It MIGHT be splash silkie/ cochin Frizzle! lol  how many days was it that one has to wait to see frizzling? 3 days?

ok I got a thought to ponder for ya.....  I/we have 3 incubators running on my kitchen table (we eat at the island) also on the table is our microwave (no place else to go with it) 1 'bator is NEXT to the micro and 1 is behind the micro the OTHER one is the farthest away from it.....  THAT one is the one with the most chicks thus far.... Do you think that being near the microwave will hinder the hatch in ANY way shape or form??  when I set the eggs I did NOT put ANY of my silkie eggs in the bator next to the microwave.  Most are in the one that is farthest away.  some are in the 'bator behind to microwave.  Whatcha think?  any ideas?

good night all!

ps no church for us tomorrow, got sick kids :(
