I have an opportunity to buy a GQF cabinet for $100.  It needs a new wafer and auto waterer, but for $100 I could get it back up to par with $60.  It comes from a friend that already has one but is looking to get some cash quick for a couple of projects.  Is this a good buy and what do I need to be cautious about on this model?

Thanks,

KEN

buy, buy, buy, I thought I got a deal for $200 no auto waterer, I found a snap on or off valve and just run water in as needed and spent very little money.

if you dont want it I will be driving up through at the end of june and will pick it up!

Ken, gqf makes  many models..  but no matter,, buy it..

You can make an auto water for less than $10.oo if you have to buy a float,, If you can scrounge up a float , you can build it for just about free..  I have made three of them..  total cost including new floats, about $20.oo..

I can help you out with instructions..

Nobody "tries" to off themselves.. either they do it or they don't..  the ones who don't usually provide an escape of some kind..  they either tell someone, or they do it where they will be discovered easily..  and those kind are trying to make someone else feel guilty about their deed.

tell your friend to dump that dude .. let somebody else be the scapegoat for him..

I can tell you what will most likely happen, though.. she will not dump him because he will threaten to do the deed if she does..  IMHO< she should offer to help him do it.

with that tractor, you can really make a big garden..  Hope he didn't pay too much for it..  $700 would be my top offer..

If it is not raining tomorrow, I want to plant the rest of the garden..

laterz     ............jiminwisc............

eta:  after you get the bater,, let me know and I can also show you how to double the capacity for medium chicken eggs..  and I can also show you how to make trays to hold large eggs like turkey, geese and peacock..  I also can show you how to make an ostrich tray..

OK, what's a GQF cabinet?

Wow, slow day/night... guess everyone is busy! We got Chocolate Fest going here this weekend... big mess in town! We try not to head that way 'till it's done! Hope the feed holds up!

Storkey took the kids to roost in the main coop tonight! She had them in there fairly early getting used to it but when it was "lights out" they were scared and peeping up a storm! I'm sure they'll be fine after a couple of nights. Probably safer there now anyway with all the roos, rather than in the next room with just mom. Jasmine has been taking the babies out all day to who knows where. Must be someplace safe... she still has 14!

Well, got to clean up kitchen and get dishes done. Young son made lasagna tonight, it was pretty good but he's used to cooking for 9 people so we have 1/2 a pan left. Hopefully we'll finish it Tue.

Night All!

Cind, a GQF  cabinet is an incubator built by GQF.. it is commonly referred to as a Sportsman..

I have three of them going right now..  they hold about 288 regular chicken eggs.. 24 dozen.. you can buy extra trays for smaller eggs like guinea that increases the capacity to 30 dozen.. and then there are the quail size trays (I don't have)..

I figured out how to modify the chicken and guinea trays to double the capacity..  very simple operation..

contrary to what some people believe,,  roosters do not protect the flock..  just like Bambi's daddy doesn't protect the fawns..

dynodan I personally would leave some light on them till they are 8 weeks. GQF sounds like great buy. Simple wiring design how can you go wrong. Can even switch out to electronic thermostat if you wanted to. Holy Cow we got uprooted trees all over the place. Nice to get free mulch that smells like fresh pine for the coops and grounds.  Lots of trips though.

Good Real Late Night or Early Early Morning to you all. It's Good night for me since I haven't gone to bed yet.

There is a Critter swap in Rhinelander on Saturday. 8am - 1 pm Pioneer Park. http://wausau.craigslist.org/grd/3036320804.html

We picked up 13 mixed breed chicks today at the school. The kids did a wonderful job with the chicks. They are very used to being handled.

Then met up with my farrier and gave them to him.

Then went to Wausau and picked up some chainlink (8' tall) to make a peafowl pen with.  Ate out at a different place and had pizza and combo basket (I know CC don't harp) no one is sick yet except DH has a bad cold now and I'm starting with one. We stopped at Walmart and I picked up some generic Cold-Ezze lozenges. They do seem to shorten the duration of a cold.

On the crappy side of the news today.............. Remember we bought a pontoon boat last year ??? With no trailer....... well my Dad had an old pontoon boat at the cabin with a trailer. We brought the trailer home and it needed tires so DH found some used tires for free...... Paid the neighbor to remount them for us........ Good right.......... Well ............................ WRONG !!!!!! I go outside to leave to pick up the chicks and Dh and neighbor are out shootin the breeze.......about what ??????     THE TRAILER IS TO WIDE FOR THE PONTOON BOAT !!!!! somad.gifsomad.gifsomad.gif He said the whole trailer would basically need to be cut down the middle and rewelded together and then the same thing done to the axle. He said anywhere from $400-$600 to do it !!!!! rant.gif

The worst part it I wanted to be able to use my Dad's trailer, for sentimental reasons. Guess not meant to be.

What the H next is going to happen this week !!!!! Good thing the week in almost over !!! lol

Ok well, gotta go take my ambien so I can get up before noon !!! LOL

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Drive safe.... the roads are loaded with people. And yes I will remember our vets. I will light a candle for all of them and my loved ones as well.

This day is NOT starting off well! undefinedI was going to try to go to bed early.... I have not made it yet!

Shortly after midnight DS#1 (the one with MS) had a "messy" accident and I had to change his sheets. OK, not the first time and I'm sure won't be the last.idunno.gif

Was getting dishes ready for the dish washer and and put water in the pan young son made the sauce in and spilled it! (I have indoor/outdoor carpeting in the kitchen undefined) Dabbed up what I could.

Loaded the dishwasher and went to wash the sheets... spilled the laundry detergent.he.gif Cleaned that up.

Cat (Natas) threw up one of her "famous" hair balls, a nice slimy 8 incher!undefined

Young son came home with a drunk friend who threw up on the deck... son kinda cleaned that up.undefined

DH had to get up early for work (3:45) so I got the chicken mash done so he could take it out but I would have to stay up to let them out. th.gif

He took out the mash about 4:30 and 2 of the "pullets" I BOUGHT started crowing! undefined

So, DH comes in, packs up his stuff or work and dumps his liter of soda on the floor! undefined remember, CARPET! So I dig through DH's pile of clothes and junk on MY SIDE of the closet! To get the carpet cleaner out! sad.png Keep in mind I have back issues that make it very painful to vacuum, running the carpet cleaner is HE!!

Went to let the chickens out...it was raining! Nice we got rain... just not right THEN! Mash pans were outside filling with water so I had to move them to the coop.... I'm already in so much pain I have tears in my eyes.sad.pngbarnie.gifhit.gif

OK, I can go to bed right? Spirit (another cat) threw up on my Bed!!! barnie.gifhit.gifbarnie.gifhit.gifth.gifChanged sheets....

and here I sit, listening to the thunder, drinking a double vodka and 7 after my (over the counter) pain pills and typing this....I would say I don't want to get up at all today, but last night my DIL told me her mother died Thur. She had COPD too. undefined

Yup, sleep, just get some sleep and it will all be good hide.gif

Night all!

Hope you all have a nice day!

BL4 think your gonna be movin to the country soon! Now that the BF has that tractor he's really gonna want to have a place to play er work with it. lau.gif  Looks like it's gonna drizzle all day. Guess I'm gonna pop the lid on the paint can for the bedroom. 90's tomorrow 60's next week?
