Hi all!

MLH.... hope they find places for all those old folks.... great they could at least get their meds.

bl4... glad the ducklings foot is improving!

Apyl... Yep, it was last falls deer and I never got around to doing the grind, just had it froze in chunks. Ground it all up and there was a handful left, I run a potato through the grinder to help unstick any meat that's left so I fried it up with the left over meat and made myself a little plate of venison hash! Yumm!

unk.... LOL... Dose that make you "papa bear" ? lau.gif.... Hope you get "sonny" moved to a new home quick! The longer he stays the harder to get rid of! But you probably know that.

WCc... sounds like a short to me (in the van), loose wire and draining the battery undefined  Hope you can get your chickens "thinned out" without too much pain.hugs.gif congrats on the hatches!

FT.... the horses look so happy there! LOL

Arrggg.... fighting headache all day.... I'll live undefined Looks like I go on a nest hunt tomorrow barnie.gifNot only do I have to find where the guineas are laying.... but I only found 6 hen eggs today! Normally I get 16 to 20! Gave the girls a lecture on how I have to sell the eggs so I have money to buy them food! hmm.png They LOOKED like they were listening roll.png.

Well, guess that's it from here...laundry, dishes and other miscellaneous things to do yet...Night!

Well, this might be a big mistake. Drinking Coffee Liqueur at night !!!! lol

Anyway big week end coming up. I need to order chicken food, duck food, chick starter and see if Magee's can get the stuff ordered and in by Friday. Otherwise i will have to order the duck food from a different place but that is closer anyway but will still go to Magee's. It's worth the drive. My eggs shells are very nice on it.

Plus I will see if I can find my pony harness to have looked at at the Amish Bigzio's friend uses.

Anyway also today a man stopped while I was tending to my ducks and geese and he wanted to buy RIR hatching eggs. Well my RIR Roo passed over the rainbow bridge so I didn't have any to offer him.

SO..... does anyone have RIR hatching eggs or chicks or maybe laying hens for sale ???? Told him I would ask. Jim or Dan do you know of anyone since you are Up Nort ????

Here are some pictures of my 4 mallard, 3 runner and 2 goslings out in their new digs today.  The Black and white ones are the Runners.Image0118.jpg

Image0133.jpg

 Image0124.jpg

The gray Gosling is a cross of my two that I don't know what they are so this is my first gosling to hatch from them and my first. The white one is from an egg I got from the guy I got 3 sebs from. It is I think a cross between a brown and white Chinese.

And the white geese are a pair of white Chinese. I just tossed about 14 of their eggs. The Goose would sleep on them at night and not during the day. I had thought she was going broody but I guess not. When the pigs got in the pen and started eating rotten eggs I knew they weren't any good. She started to lay again today so we will start over I guess.

Btw, because we didn't collect Runner duck eggs since last weekend I now have about 4 ducks that have gone broody so looks like I will have a bunch of Runner ducklings. Could have a few that could have rouen or mallard crossed in since I have 18 runners housed with a pair of rouen's and one mallard drake.  I will keep you all posted........ Don't know how many I will keep. Dang dh, I told him to start collecting again ........ Guess if you want the job done you gotta do it urself !!! LOL I had no idea that Runners went Broody !!!! News to me !!!! Oh and I have my mix breed goose laying on eggs. Have no idea who's eggs they are. That gray pair is in with my 5 sebs so ??????? I don't think the seb gander is dominant so ????? I need to get them separated.

Hopefully my Muscovy's and calls follow suit. I'm tired of incubating in the house.

I just put in about 4 dozen mix breed chicken eggs in lock down. Most are for my farrier who is coming this weekend to trim. Gotta stay on his good side. He only charges $25 for a trim and I have draft horses and donkeys. A lot of farriers won't even do them or one farrier wanted $50 for drafts and didn't do donkeys !!!! Geez bunch of Sissy's !!! lol

Hopefully the teacher at school who's class hatched out the 13 chicks will take some of the chicks. She said a lot of people wanted to take them home, some for 4H. I didn't think 4H used mix breed chicks??????

Some of the chicks might be pure Aussie's since I put in some of the neighbors eggs. He has two Aussie Roo's (see Heather) over Aussie hens, BR and BO hens. Ought to be cute chicks. I might keep the pure Aussies if I can tell them apart at one day old.

I got 3 dozen eggs from the neighbor and I just threw out another Stinky one tonight. I think I put only 30 of his in lock down. His eggs were filthy !!!  I washed them. There was no way I was going to put them in the bator dirty. I wouldn't have even put them in the bator but at the time I wanted to fill the bator for the farrier and I wanted some pure Aussies. By the time I changed my mind they brought them over and so I paid for them and thought since I paid I may as well use them.

So they are due Friday and we need to get hay on Thursday. Geez I had better get to sleep. And I keep nipping at this bottle. I had better make a list of the phone numbers I need to call in the morning because I have a feeling I won't want to do it when I wake up !!!! I sure wish I wasn't such a night owl at times !!!!

Yes they are very happy out there. If only they'd stay. Right after that picture when I was trying to round them up by myself they ditched into the woods. I had no idea they would all go so freely into the woods. They darted in there and followed the creek. By the time I got to the road and went around the corner they were already in the neighbors hayfield and the 3 donkeys were headed toward the highway !!! Not that busy of one but all it takes is one car or truck or log truck !!!

When I get my Atv fixed (need to put that number on my list of calls too) I'm going to tell dh we're going to let them all out their for an hour or so but we'll need two Atv's to round all 11 of them up. I just fear gopher holes or ???? when they are galloping around the field !!! It's a beautiful sight and sound (you can hear and feel the drafts running, it's breathtaking).

I would have to say............. You know you've lost your mind to chickens when............" Gave the girls a lecture on how I have to sell the eggs so I have money to buy them food! hmm.png They LOOKED like they were listening roll.png."

Oh and one more question for you all. I took an Atv ride (well me and Butt dog did) and found this unusual looking plant along side of the road. Any idea what it is? And two more pictures of the wolf river on my atv ride today.Image0137.jpg

It is kinda' funny when they are all on the roost and I stand in front of them and talk to them .... I feel like a professor  giving a lecture in a lecture hall! I talk and they listen... sometimes they cackle and squawk back! It's cute. love.gifgig.gif

That looks like Cow Parsnip to me. Don't let the critters eat it! The root can be used medically but the rest is toxic. The juice from it can cause blisters so if you want to get rid of it use gloves.

Morning all!

Thought I'd stop in to get caught up before I check the critters.  I have a very needy little dog over seeing my typing....

FT-nice horses!  Is that a blanketed Appy I spied way way way in the back ground on one of the shots?  Is that Spice?

WCc-Sorry to hear of your troubles, I will take a look at what you have on your list again.  See if I can help you out.  Maybe some of the singletons like the Olive Egger, Barn Yard Mix and BSL hens...

Well, off I got..finish my coffee and get the critters feed watered and their treats...

Morning folks, cold in the north today,,,,35º now high predicted of 52,,,,tonight widespread frost,,,,not having fragile plants out in the garden yet I timed things right this year. gh will stay closed for the first time in weeks,,,good day to replant a bed or 2

to the bear advice,,,,,,,yes electric fence is an option,,,some work, a few hundred bucks, maintenance, inconvenience when accessing my outbuildings,,,,,won't happen here these are problematic bears that don't belong in semi-residential areas. Before baiting and residential feeding were legal this was never an issue. Now we have the highest population of bears maybe EVER in this state and they are drawn to backyard deer feeders and day old bakery,,,,not what nature intended for them. Growing up here as a kid one of the "local" attractions for natives and tourists alike was an evening trip to a dump (b4 they were re-named landfills), most of these were located at the edge of state/federal forests. Fun times seeing 5-15 of these creatures crawling over the stinking/rotting piles of waste,,,,,,,never knew how many actually died from all the toxins we didn't even know existed back in the '50s. They are magnificent and intriguing creatures that got messed up living in proximity with non-native Americans......

Joe, I know who funds APHIS I am a participant in their programs,,,you missed my point

Jim you hit it on the head,,,,I might be that bears papa,,,if so,,, it's the papa bears that eat their young,,,,,,,not that I am a fan of bear meat,,,,,,,,,,,just sayin'

FT,,,that plant will eventually get taller than you with a huge flat shaped white flower,,,can't remember the name of it,,,,

think a hearty breakfast is called for,,,some homemade hash browns, eggs, and something involving PORK !

Yesterday Morning I sent GQF an email asking for advice on converting a hatcher to an auto-turner.  This is the response I got:

No, there is no kit and the individual parts required plus time and difficulty would be cheaper to buy another incubator.

Best regards,

G.Q.F. Sales Team

First off please use proper grammar, secondly that was not helpful, third respond to the question not the assumed intent of the question.  Thank you GQF for not being helpful and refusing to answer my question.

In other news I have 21 eggs that are nearing hatch day.  I have used the dry method and now am confused on how to lock it down (Day 21 is 6/3)

Thanks,

KEN
