Morning folks, cold in the north today,,,,35º now high predicted of 52,,,,tonight widespread frost,,,,not having fragile plants out in the garden yet I timed things right this year. gh will stay closed for the first time in weeks,,,good day to replant a bed or 2
to the bear advice,,,,,,,yes electric fence is an option,,,some work, a few hundred bucks, maintenance, inconvenience when accessing my outbuildings,,,,,won't happen here these are problematic bears that don't belong in semi-residential areas. Before baiting and residential feeding were legal this was never an issue. Now we have the highest population of bears maybe EVER in this state and they are drawn to backyard deer feeders and day old bakery,,,,not what nature intended for them. Growing up here as a kid one of the "local" attractions for natives and tourists alike was an evening trip to a dump (b4 they were re-named landfills), most of these were located at the edge of state/federal forests. Fun times seeing 5-15 of these creatures crawling over the stinking/rotting piles of waste,,,,,,,never knew how many actually died from all the toxins we didn't even know existed back in the '50s. They are magnificent and intriguing creatures that got messed up living in proximity with non-native Americans......
Joe, I know who funds APHIS I am a participant in their programs,,,you missed my point
Jim you hit it on the head,,,,I might be that bears papa,,,if so,,, it's the papa bears that eat their young,,,,,,,not that I am a fan of bear meat,,,,,,,,,,,just sayin'
