good evening..  not much going on around here..

I tilled a good part of the corn patch and replanted it..  then today I bought a sprinkler can and hand watered 13 rows of corn and part of 2 rows of beans..  then I took the tractor and dragged the rest of the "corn" patch..  I was just about all finished when I snapped a tooth off the cultivator.. I think I cussed loud enough for the neighbors to hear..  I have a couple of spare blades here, so I can fix it in just a short while..   then I will finish watering the last 5 rows of corn and plant buckwheat in the dragged portion of the garden..

I had 4 calls for the last two puppies..  I think they are all wishful thinkers..

Brian's chicks are hatching as I type..

I have over 50 guinea eggs to set,  and a couple of turkey and goose eggs, too..

we did not get any frost last night..

sometime this week we are going to transfer all the beby chicks back into the guinea lean to with the older baby chicks..  there is a large metal brooder back there that is more dependable than the one in their pen..  they do not need a lot of heat, just a little supplemental  heat during the night..

Other Terri,  yes, the guy from Point was here and took 7 guineas..

   we have TerriO and OTerri..

I am going to the swap at Wave's on Sunday in Elcho..  there should be a few people there that I know..  or will get to know..

I think I will be going to bed early tonight..  see you all in the morning..

Jim (or anyone) how long after planting corn should it sprout in this weather? I planted my corn and beans at the same time and the beans are up but not the corn. Suggestions? Should I replant?

If it didn't get any water, it could take a couple of weeks to come up..  with water and this kind of heat, a week to 10 days..  I gave mine almost 3 weeks and it never did come up..  too dry..  that's why I watered it when I planted it this time..

Good Morning all !!!

Just to keep you all in suspense I will tell you my chicken news first. I have one Lavender Ameraucana chick that I had to help out. Hope it makes it. It did loose some blood but it was pipping on the wrong end. I know I shouldn't intervene but I couldn't help it.

Anyway, on the Horse front;

Well, let me just say that I came very close to getting in trouble with the law today !!! LOL

So I am laying low. Sorry I don't want to dig myself in deeper so I can't/won't share all of the details until I get things figured out.

What I can tell you is she didn't accept my offer for $100. She told me she felt insulted. I in turn told her I was insulted by her lying to me. Needless to say I spoke with her for a long long time today, keeping on her good side. I made another offer on the horse so I'm giving her a few days to get back to me on that one.

And no the woman didn't call the cops on me. Get this, I drove to the place where the ex told me they got the horse. Long story short the guy gave me the phone number for the people that used to live there (his landlord) and said they had kept horses at this place at one time.

Then I made the mistake of showing him the pictures of the horse. When he handed me the phone number and name of the person that had lived there and had horses I said, Oh I had talked to her already. All of a sudden this guy turns into a Dr Jekel, Mr Hyde and tells me that I shouldn't buy the horse, I should call the cops, then he goes in the house and starts arguing with me from behind the screen door about this. I was just standing by my car the whole time. Then he said maybe I (he) should call the cops !! Then he comes back outside and kept repeatng my license plate number threating to call the cops about the horse and at this point I start repeating his license plate number !!! I couldn't believe this guy. I think he was higher then a kite. But what I really think set him off was that once I said I had already talked to the person who's name and number he gave me he got all paranoid that he maybe shouldn't have done that ??????

So this morning I get a phone call from an Officer who's county I won't say. I started telling him why I was at that guys house (just looking to find out info about the horse I was trying to buy) and this rude SOB says, "I don't care about all of that" (don't quote me on that, can't recall exactly what he said) then said, he just wanted to know where the horse was because the guy called and told him I had showed him pictures. (stupid mistake, I must have had a blonde moment to have done that )

SO, being as P!SSED OFF as I was at that guy last night and then by this officer interupting me to tell me he didn't care about what was said, just tell him where the horse is.

Well, all I can say is I basically told him I didn't know the address. Nor the peoples name or what county !!!

He was not pleased. I tried explaining that the horse has food and water and I know from doing a lot of research that all they can do is make sure the horse has food and water and they can not take that horse from the owner and that will just make it harder for me to buy the horse or ever be able to step foot on their property, let alone have these people out to get me for turning them in which I DID NOT DO but they would think  did.

Anyway, he said he could indeed take that horse. I asked and where would you bring it? Then he said he would bring it to me !!!! LOL Yeah right. I said, ok so you would take the horse from the owners, have it vet checked, treated if need be, have the hoofs trimmed and then bring me the horse that would be in great shape right?  Well, that shut him up !!! He knows Darn well that he can not just go take that horse.

So, he said, I'll tell you what I will give you until 3pm. Guess I was suppose to call him because I haven't heard back from him.

So, my thoughts on this are if the guy who made the call to the sheriffs didn't see the horse and is just going by what I said I don't think the officer can force me to do anything. He said well I took pictures. I told him, I never said I took the pictures.

I am so ticked off right now at that SOB who called. What a GDCSMFB !!! Go figure that one out !!!! lol

I guess I'd make a good POW, cause I'm not talkin. I have all of my animals and myself to protect. I sure made a mistake digging to find out about the history on the horse but I'm not sorry I'm trying to help him.

Oh and I talked to my neighbor who has lived up here all her life and gave her the name of the person who lived at the address I went to and she said that that woman (not to be confused with the current owner of the horse) is not a well liked horse woman and was a big time liar. (There are a lot of those in the horse world I'm afraid) I think that might be part of the reason that man freaked out.

I do have to say my adrenaln was going last night. I was almost in tears and in shock at this man who flipped out on me !!! Oh Sh!t, now that it's 5am I suppose I should try to get some sleep. Lots to do tomorrow and I suppose I will have Officer Friendly at my door. I told DH to make sure he locks the door when he leaves for work. I don't want them walking in on me, I don't always get dressed until after noon you know, well you all know that but Barnie Fighf doesn't !!! LOL

Ain't I bad...................... LOL

Ok, now aren't you all sorry you asked ????

Good morning folks,

looks like another great day to work in the north country,,,possible rain coming this weekend, need to finish howing a few rows to stay ahead of weeds. Hope to get buckwheat planted on the "resting half" of the garden

my comments on "As the stable turns"

FT, now that the authorities are involved you might reconsider getting them to intervene, there have been a few much publicized incidents of horse neglect over the years in this area. They can "just take the horse"(there is a Humane Society in the county where they horse is located) and maybe in this small town area they will bring it to you for care during any legal dispute, that is really what you want isn't it? get the suffering animal out of the bad situation 1st priority

If you buy that horse you will be paying all the bills anyway, I would think maybe that current owner would be held responsible for those bills if and when it went to court,,,not that she would pay,,,,but at least you wouldn't be out the cost of the horse. Chances are she will find out who you are,,,, IF that officer is concerned enough to follow up is another issue. It doesn't make sense to me to play dumb and deny involvement at this point, that could bite you in the butt with the law,,,remember,,, small town

time for 2nd cuppa and then start the day

OH Holy Craziness French Toast!

I agree with Unkadan, I think. It seems logical that allowing authorities at this point to take over while you act like a concerned citizen. The last thing you want to appear as is crazy like the rest of them or that you are trying to interfere! I think even admitting that you had made an offer to the owners to get the horse out of their care without turning them in which explains why you have pictures. The truth in this situation may calm down everyone involved.

Jim, I think that my corn has been in the ground for 7-10 days while being watered. So I'll wait until this weekend, then plant again if needed. My beans and winter squash are all up and they were planted at the same time.

Wow Frenchie!

As for involving the authorities...... lau.gif what a JOKE. They will do NOTHING. They are not trained to know the difference between starving and ill, they have no idea what conditions a horse should be living in, how it should be haltered, tied, etc..... in other words they are completely ignorant. Good for you Frenchie! Don't trust the coppers!

I tried to report a woman for starving her horses, keeping them on mud pastures, no water to speak of for them to drink...... the cops sat on their butts and did not do a thing. I do not have the facilities to keep a horse, let alone the 5 this woman was mistreating. I contacted MWHR and sent them my pics and they were upset but could not do anything either..... and I have no idea what happened with those horses either. It was a very sad situation, this woman had a record for mistreating horses and yet was still allowed to keep them (she had allowed one to get sick and die right out in the field with her other horses, and she lift it there for days....).

Ok have to run to work, I'll check in to the SO later!

morning FTfrow.gif

~hope you are getting some sleep right nowhmm.png.  At this point, I am afraid I have to agree with the other voices that now that the authorities are involved, you may have to let them sort things out. It may be the only way you can get yourself out of the middle of it and " live to fight another day". (Before you become cannon fodder in the middle of a civil war!hide.gif)

Sounds to me like this guy you talked to was scared (or angered) into launching a "pre-emptive" strike, because? Maybe making sure the horse's condition was blamed entirely on the current owner and not on him and his wife.  Or, they could have recently been involved with the law on another (or similar) matter that your friend knows nothing about or even currently.  That would, to me, be the logical explanation why he freaked on you after actually seeing the horse.  There also may be some sort of bad blood between them and the current owners.  I would also, at this point, be suspicious as to who is actually the legal owner of this poor old horse.  The current owner (aka lying drunk) may have just taken the horse, bought but never paid for it, got in a fight with people over the horse, ------,or?

Sounds like you innocently may have not just poked the hornet's nest, you smacked it with a baseball bat!ep.gif

Looking forward to meeting you at the swap meetbig_smile.png  I am a pretty fair baker so let me know if I need  to bake you a cake with a file in it so you can be therelau.gif

(sorry, couldn't resist)

Out to check on the girls now, BBFN

Morning all!

Geez FT!  That is one wild tale!  That Crazy Dude sounded like he was on drugs. That officer should have been more concerned.  I would not be surprised to find that the Cop is wanting an "in" for another reason.  The horse issue might be what he needs to get something to "stick" on the Drunk Owner.  Part of me agrees with Dan and part of me agrees with BL4.   Honestly, you have done nothing wrong.  I think your caught up in a huge mess and both you and that horse are caught in the middle. You can always see what shakes out in the next few days.  Either Drug Dude and Drunk Owner talk or they don't. I would not burn the bridge with the Cops though. They might be this horses only salvation.  you never know....Someone else that you don't know about might have turned her in for horse neglect already.  Depending on the situation, they Cops may or may not be able to inform you that they are trying to make a case against Drink Owner.

Since there is a Humane Society, the horse can be seized.  It might be worth your while to call them and find out what the policy is that they have to follow to get an animal seized from an abuse or neglect situation.

Well, best get going.
