Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2306

Made Swai fillets tonight for dinner. Apparently they are comparable to catfish in flavor and texture, so I made them in a skillet on the grill southern style. Yummy! Made boiled new potatoes, California blend veggies, and cut up a watermelon to go with the fish. All I was missing was a few squirts of lemon for the fish!

Daughters BF has a flat tire so the DH is out helping him fix the tire right now. Poor kid was supposed to be home by 10 so the DD sent mom a pic over the phone to verify the situation.

I am thinking since Thursday is the youngest DS's birthday, I may take the day off. It sure would be nice to be out of a building on such a hot day and be able to go be a bum at the beach!

No more mystery deaths so far this week. Everyone is growing and looking good..... fl.gif

Frenchie I am so happy that horse is ok, and no longer padlocked to a chain. I hope you can explain the 'rest of the story' to us at some point; I bet it will be just as interesting as the rest of 'As the Stable Turns'....

Better hit the hay, I need to run in the AM since I have been a lazy bum for the past 2 weeks.

Night all!

Good evening!  Man that horse sure looks happy without his halter and chain!  I sure hated to see those pics of him in that situation; things seem to be looking up for him! Yeah!

BigZ and Cind--I will have to check out that link on the waterer Too...I have the opposite problem...mine will not come out!  Had them apart on the weekend getting the crud out of the bottom and one is plugged up already!  The chickens were pretty happy to get water again when I went out after unloading 405 bales of hay...can you say tired?  IT was fine grass hay and the horses seem to like it but is it a pain to move around! So slippery on the ground and it can slip the ropes off the bale in an instant!  But I have hay...for 100 days.

Lost a quail today...I decided to clean in and have it for supper since it was alive this morning and dead at 2.  It was delicious!  I just may be butchering a few more of the little delicacies!

Thought I would share a picture of the ducklings at the day spa today:

IMG_4727.JPGIMG_4730.JPG

I wanted to catch them snapping at flies but I couldnt get it with this camera.  This is what I do when the fly traps are full; tip the jar over to drown and living ones and then dump them on the ground for the ducks and chickens to eat!  MMMMM--they think it's a picnic!  While it is up side down the liquid attracts more flies for the ducks to catch.

I also have another record breaker on the farm...my hen Silver is back with another brood...get this--a whopping 17 babies!  Only one egg was left in her nest.  She was funny cause she seemed to know that I was helping her as I loaded the babies up in my shirt to take down from the ceiling.  I knew there must be some up there because I saw 2 brand new chicks that I hadnt seen before!  Here they are:

IMG_4737.JPGShe is a champion Mom for sure!

Well, the girls just got home from softball and I am heading to bed!  Nighties!  Terri O

Went outside to turn off sprinkler and heard a noise. I realized a raccoon family was in our garbage can. There were at least 4-5 young ones scurrying away. The garbage cans are on the westside of our garage and the chicken coop is on the eastside of the garage. So after I moved the garbage cans away from the garage, I went through the garage to the coop. There was a coon (I couldn't see the age) sitting on the fence by the coop (which is also by the trees they scurry up). I clapped and heard it and others scurry up the trees. The coons must have determined that the garbage and compost are easier than the coop (at this point in time). But my question to you all is what poison can I put in the garbage can to kill he coons?????

Our urban farm family consists of 1 dog, 2 cats, 14 chickens-3 black orpington, 2 americauna (1 blue and 1 black), 3 blr wyandottes (2 splash and 1 blue), 6 lavendar orpingtons, and a rabbit.

I had to LOL when I read this, Terri. On Sunday evening, I had over 130+ unread posts!  ep.gif    th.gif    Needless to say, I've been doing a lot of this  caf.gif  lately.

Drh, so sorry to hear about Bob and am so glad you found him!  hugs.gif  I sure hope he continues to improve.

Amy, so sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope he shows up real soon.  hugs.gif  I try to avoid those unfortunate circumstances by keeping all my cats inside and having them fixed early. I so hate animal heartaches and worry.  sad.png

FT, I am so happy the horse got rescued! Hooray!  celebrate.gif  He sure looks a lot happier and on the road to recovery. I hope he will be able to go home with you too.

Nice animal pics, everyone!

Ang, so sorry to hear about your chicken troubles. I hope you can get it figured out. Wish I could be of more help.  hugs.gif

CRS kicked in, so please forgive me whomever it was that had the predator attack on your chickens. I am so very sorry to hear that.  hugs.gif    I hope you are starting to feel a little better and aren't getting discouraged about keeping chickens. They are such a joy to have and watch as they go about their antics. I'm sure there are some people on here who would gladly help you rebuild your flock. Where about in the state are you? Do you have an incubator? I could give you some hatching eggs or hatch some for you if you wish.

Well, must get the laundry in the dryer & go to bed. All this reading has made me tired.  wink.png  Sweet dreams, all!

A wonderful DH who spoils me rotten, 4 cats, 2 doves, 2 rabbits, an old partridge cochin banty roo, a golden Seabright roo, Dominiques, buff, lavender, black, gold-laced & chocolate orps, and some barnyard mixes.
