Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2357

Feels like another lazy day coming on. I've been forcing myself to stay awake so made some phone calls.

One to the local grocery store that can order Prince feed and I get in in one day. Pretty good prices. Schaefers in Crandon. 17% Layer crumbles for $10 something, Duck and Goose Grower, Pig food and Medicated Chick starter.

VickyW. They get an order in on Tues and Thursdays and you can order it the day before and call before noon and ask for Bill, 715 478-2558 just an fyi.

Also called the Sherrifs office and found out they charged the horse owner with 3 things. Mistreatment of animal, lack of water and lack of food. All misdemeanors. Wonder how these will fly.

Better take some aspirin today. Ache all over, more then usual. ????? why?

Going to check for more guinea keets. I left 1 in the nest and there were about 6 eggs. I'm so eggcited. These are my first keets from my own birds and my first from in the "Wild" !!

Going to have to catch a peahen and medicate her. She has been coughing a bit witha phlemy sound. Kind of like DH !!! lol

Ok, I found my bag of seeds. I know it is way to late to plant pumpkins. But what can I plant so late in the season?

Lettuce, radishes, onion sets, kale, mustard greens,  how about corn?  How do I store the seeds till next year. The weren't cheap either !!!!  Geez !!!! Old and lazy is NOT FUN !!

LOL Jim-SO true!!! Wish I knew a magic answer for ending the broodiness of my hens. Seems as though at any given time, I have a couple hens sitting on empty nests. I was feeling bad for them-now their lil crabby selfs are irritating me! :-P

Hi Frenchie!  Thank you for the FYI!  About storing the seeds.  I store mine in the fridge in a lidded can and throw in some dessicent just to be on the safe side.  Actually any dark, cool (cooler the better) and dry place will work.  I always grow heirlooms and harvest my own seed.  Never had any viability problems even going several years out.  Way too late for corn this far north.  any of the others you mentioned should do fine.  Onions~seeds or sets?  sets maybe if we have a good fall.

Not hitting on all cylinders myself today.  Weather related?  or, at least in my case a bad case of "Old timers"? hit.gif

Forgot to add (thanks MLH) that I put all the seeds in baggies, then in the can, then toss in a dessicent or two.

Don't know why I'm here when I have things to do....maybe because today is a "sore" day for me. Sore all over and creeking joints.  If I didn't know any better I'd say we're in for some rain...maybe I should go wash the truck....

Vicki-I thought I read some where that if you use dessicents with seeds that they become unviable...(is unviable even a word! lol) Anyway maybe that was just for beans. However, since you use them for your seeds and they sprout, then I must have read that wrong.

Good luck in breaking Miss Broodies brood! It's Fricassee right? The one who is brooding?

FT-I store my seeds in little sealed mylar bags and stick them in the fridge in a sealed canister. I use my food saver to seal the mylar.

That;s good news that they charged the horse owner with something atleast.  Maybe someday (not likely) she will understand that her action will have consequences.

TO- You napped already today?!?  I have to say that is a splendid idea!

Well, I guess I should go do what I need to do....Maybe I'll have lunch first...a turkey sandwich laced with Advil. Oh perhaps I should avoid the turkey and eat a PB&J instead....

Hi MLH frow.gif

I don't put the dessicants in with the seeds, just in the can itself to keep the potential of too much moisture from the fridge getting to them.  Vacusealing them, hmmmmmm, never thought of that!  Don't know why, I vacuseal just about everything else!  DUH!

Yep, it's Fricassee.  She's outside in the garden right now so she'll eat and drink.  Every time I force her off the nest she's starving!  Dumb hen smack.gifThat's the other reason I want to break her.  She won't get off the nest for ANYTHING!  Her "apartment" is all ready for her (large welded wire cage on blocks) and in she goes as soon as I know she is done eating and grabbed a few bugs wink.png

FT, that is a neat looking horse..  I wonder , what is it's name ?  could it be Checkers,? or Check ?  just guessing from the markings on it's front shoulder..

I got the blades sharpened and the mower deck back on..  mowed a section of lawn..  that squeak is still chirping..   I am going to just douse the idlers with WD40 and see if that helps any..  It shouldn't, as the idlers all have sealed bearings..  I couldn't get anything to squeak when I had it all apart..

I also got the tiller started and running like a top.. so this AM i went and finished hilling the potatoes..  then I went up and back  on the whole row , just for good measure..  they are looking really nice.. just starting to blossom good..  hardly any bugs..  IDK if the guineas are eating them or not..  they spend a lot of time in the garden..  I don't have any cabbage bugs either..

the peas are in full swing right now..

the peahen quit her nest when her chick hatched,  leaving 3 guinea eggs behind..  Annie put them into the bator and they all hatched within a day..

the surprise clutch of 14 guinea keets is down to 8 already..  those guineas sure are not good mothers..  we cannot catch the keets because they duck into the blackberry patch.. Oh well..

speaking of blackberries.. If we can get a couple of nice rains, we should have a bumper crop..

speaking of rain..  the garden was super dry this morning when I was hilling the spuds..  looks like rain coming on Sat..  we will be good until then..  I might haul some water to the tomatoes before then, though..

I have a friend who wants some Delaware pullets..  she wants to trade for them..  she has Coturnix quail,  (eggs or just hatched),,   Harlequin duck eggs ,,    are the Harlequin ducks the really prolific egg layers ??

My check up at the VA in Tomah went well yesterday..  I went for therapy  evaluation for my torn up shoulder..  I do not need to go back..

stopped at a tavern just a couple of miles up the highway East of the Ho Chunk gas station for lunch...  very good food..   North side of the road..  forgot the name of it..  You can't miss it..

Good early evening!  Glad you will be around to live another day Jim!  Always nice to have a good check-up.  That same thing happened with my car...DH had it all apart; did the breaks, lubed up everything and couldnt find the squeak...put it all back and within 5 miles it started up again!  GGRRRR!

Was at the fair this afternoon for a little while, then whent to the grocery store...forgot dish soap--AGAIN!  I went for that and bar soap...got the bar soap.  So I guess I get to go back again.  I even was in town and got gas, went to the bank and the post office...still didnt remember.  Dam^ CRS!  LOL!  Stopped at the hardware store to see if I could get some .22 shells--nobody sells them in town!  Yeah--what a waste of errand time!

I did remember the ingredients for the cheese cake I am entering in the chocolate contest tomorrow...couldnt find anything GF for the crumb crust...it might not be GF.  I will see what I can make with stuff here.

We are having a 50th birthday party in the park for our whole graduating class...would like to make something I can eat!

Speaking of; I think I will head to the fair for some supper...the baked potatoes are always good! Later!  Terri O

(PS) the calls are doing fine BL4 and are no longer segregated from the boy...
