Vicki, you shouldn't have a problem moving the cage with your broody in. When I did this for my broody I didn't have the cage even in sight of their coop. Once she broke down and went back to "normal" I just put her back in with the group in the coop with no problems. You do want the cage in an area with good ventilation, keeping her cooler.

Good Luck!

Good Morning everyone. The kids are actually getting along so I'm going to try to make it fast. I'm telling you I am exhausted, constant fighting and someone is always geting hurt. Anyway on the chicken front my flock is now 20 weeks old. The ducks are slightly younger. So I am assuming any time now I should start finding pullet eggs? Sorry Jim I have no clue about Harlequins this is my first year with ducks and I have Mallards and a Pekin ducks. Well since my post decided to freeze for so long no the kids are at it yet again. Boy I cant wait for this week to get over. ugh I'llbe back to talking to everyone Monday !

Just skiimming through the Fleet Farm and and stumbled across this incubator. Not a bad price for this one. Although I like my hovabators but I paid about $70 more for them.

MLH put the radio in with them. Tune it to a station that plays songs like. The Bunny hop-s into the pot and My bunny  lies over the roaster. Thought when I first started reading that, you got bit. Apyl hang in there! Had to re-sight the varmint rifle, scope was loose. Be afraid be very very afraid! I see more bad news on the store bought chicken front. Just gave 2 doz eggs to a friend yesterday She said I don't need that many. Then I showed her the poult eggs included. She said ok ya maybe. gig.gifHave been getting 6 a day now since their diet started. Think that will improve. Have to go out a put a finish coat on the board I cut this morning to completely seal the run.

FT: Glad to hear the abusive horse owners are being charged!!!

Cind: So glad your kittens are ok!!!

BabyLady: I think the booth at the City Picnic is a perfect idea....and a wy to recruit newbies too!

BBP: Sorry to hear about the meat birds. It does seem as if chicken chores never end do they? I finally put the newest chicks out in my coop brooder last night-one less chore before work in the mornings. By the way-when are you coming over to see them?

Terri O: What do you use for the GF cheesecake crust? How did they turn out?

What age do you think its usually a given which sex your chicks are? 12 wks 16 wks? I have 3 that I am uncertain on and would really like to try and find homes (if roos) before the fall when everyone is trying to get rid of roo chicks. 10-12 wks old now

I have to say out of the 9 new breeds I have added. My Light Brahma has continued to be the most adorable-and also the loudest!!! My sussex, cochin, and GL Wyandottes are sure friendly lil ones too! High strung-Lt Brahma & S Faverolle. Most laid back-GL Wyandotte and Sussex. friendliest Banty cochin.  My Lav Orps are hard to compare as they are hen raised but they sure on beautiful! And still not sure what the deal is with Susie the mottled Lav Orp.

Barred Rock, Black sex-linked, Dorking/Iowa Blue mix, Black, Buff, & Lavender orpingtons, Cochin bantams & LF, SL & GL Wyandotes, Lt Brahma, Salmon Faverolle, Easter Egger's, Speckled Sussex, Silver Laced Maran, and Polish mix

Just resting for a moment and catching up!

DrH. My bunny lies over the roaster!?! lau.gif ROFLOL!!! That was funny right there! Actually so far I have not been bit. I've been kicked at time or two and that hurts like hoolies.  The does do like to sniff my toes and nibble on my jeans though....roll.png

Ang-Tiki is right. It depends on age and breed.  Even how dominant the are can have an effect on growth. Post some pics and we can help. One way is to listen to them. Roosters usually have a deeper "voice".

Kristi-you said the babies were 15 weeks? Lets see that';s 3 1/2 months right?  They should be fine on layer.  Ideally you'd feed started until the lay but in this case you are fine switching them since they are old enough to handle the added calcium.  It can get really technical as to when a baby can and cannot have calcium and at what age. That is why it is easier to feed starter until they start to lay for most people.  But in reality a pullet can have layer earlier then POL and not have any issues.

FT-That is an awesome price for a incubator with a turner. Unless your Jim. Then you can build one that is even more awesome with spare parts from all sorts of things for free. And still have 125% hatch rate! LOL!

Well the dogs want in and those that are in want out....

Later!

ETA: Congrats on the hatch Ken!!

Caught our Police Chief this morning (and missed the UW meeting).... he told me that as long as I was making an effort to re-home the ducks he would be kind. He also told me there were other like-minded people in town and that I need to present to board with information, a sample or ordinances from other communities, and sample ordinance for our town, examples of fines if people do NOT adhere to the ordinance as stated.... I was pleasantly surprised with his attitude and all his help!

So for right now the ducks are here......   and I need to eat dinner.
