So I go out this morning to feed my ladies and They are all standing around in the hen house.  I figure they don't want to go out in the wind and shiver.  I fill the feeder and the indoor water( I have some youngins that do not go outside for the abuse yet) and decide to peek in the nesting box to see if anyone is up and at em that early. I have a nesting box I made from an old kitchen cabinet so that my side has the cabinet door and the hen side has 4 holes for nesting 2 on top and 2 under.  anyway I open the door and there sits a cat, well half a cat, well a half grown cat sleeping snuggled up to the production red trying to lay.  This kitten is not mine but similarly colored to our tabby.  I sent him on his way out my side of the nest box, and he ran off like he was shot out of a cannon.

anyone else every have a ferral cat get friendly with your hens?

should I worry about him coming back with the family to feast?

thoughts any one?

that sounds like a chicken friendly cat..  I would have fed it and kept it in the coop for rodent control..  I would keep an eye on it to see how it responded to the very young and small chickens..

Oh MXM I am so JEALOUS! One of the items on my bucket list is to travel Europe! I would LOVE to go to Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece...... I have said I would have to bring clothing with elastic waistbands since I would be eating soooooooo much everywhere I went! I bet I would gain an easy 20 lbs! I figure I need a good 3 weeks to see what I want to see......

I have not been running..... I need to get myself motivated to get my lard butt out of bed at 5 AM in order to run...... I have signed up for swimming lessons though. I start tomorrow. If I am going to be doing this triathlon in August, I figure I need to be able to swim for more than 5 minutes without becoming exhausted......

David, good luck getting that hen back! I have visions of you catching the little she-devil!

I wish I did not have to work today. I would have headed over to Door County with my camera to take pics of the wave action on the Lake from Sandy. Oh well.....

Up too late last night and up early this morning. Feeling the effects of it now so I should sign off.....

Night all!

You like that, hey? tongue.png   What can I say, Jim as usual said it best. All I can do is agree.

I would have left the cat there. Oh, who am I kidding?  roll.png  I would have taken it to the vet for testing & shots, brought it in, gave it a bath, a warm meal and a forever home. Such a sucker for a kitty..............

Ghost, did you give your hen a good looking over? Mites, injuries, prolapse, etc? A few people on here have reported hens with wounds from roosters that they couldn't see until they looked real good. I hope she is feeling better real soon for you.  fl.gif

Marg, I'm jealous too! I would love to go visit Ireland. (Big shocker there, hey?) Glad you had a good time overseas. Hope you took lots of pics.

David, I'm glad your MIA hen is still about. I hope you are able to catch her soon. Good luck!  fl.gif

Not much to report here. So far Mini Moo is looking great. She has still been laying eggs, despite my best efforts. She is back out with Jack for a few days before I let her back in with the flock, and she is not happy about it one bit. She wants out in the worst way to be with Moose & her sisters. She was the first hatched & she is overprotective of one of her sisters who is the smallest & has bad eyesight. She keeps the roos from messing with her, but the little one is pretty smart. She is Mooses shadow, and the other roos stay far away from him.

The chicks are doing good & growing fast. Not much else to report. Still cold and super windy down here. Makes me wish I was enjoying some of Bigz's warm fire. Sweet dreams, all!

frow.gif Hello Friends!

I was told to check in with y'all, everything's fine and dandy. My SIL wedding a few weeks ago was fantastic, I'll have to post a couple pics later. We went to the Dallas Arboretum and man was it cool! Now we are gearing up for Halloween fun tomorrow. big_smile.png

Flock is good. I had to process 6 of my 9 ducks. That was a bummer, but it's better than my two girls getting beat up. Can't wait for ducklings in spring!

Hey, did everyone that wanted ground cherry seeds get them? I sent out 3 envelopes...

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All..... I Upgraded this beast (computer) so it took up almost all of my computer time sad.png I did read post but.... too late to gab much.

Jim.... yea, I figured they would be OK.... Turkeys are a very north, north American bird so I figured they would be fine, The run is blocked on the north by the coop and I put a sheet of plywood on the west side so they should be fine. They are so sweet and friendly. They are still getting used to me but I can sit in their run with them and give them treats. One of the hens likes to "sample peck" but that's as aggresive as they get. I can pick any of them up without a fight. Nice birds.thumbsup.gif

uess I should get to bed now.... night all!
