Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" - Page 2957

For everyone else HI!!!!!!!!   Terri shamed me and then beat me with a dead chicken for not coming on here more often.

This morning I am here courtesy of my 5 year old who wanted to wait in the milk house per usual for the bus.  She ARGUED with me about getting into the heated car to drive down to the end of the driveway to wait for the bus.  For so long that the bus came and went... hmm.png um... not cool.

So now I'm propping myself up reading and writing to youse guys until the Mom Bus can leave for school.  I've lurked a couple times here!  So nice to read and catch up a bit!

So.  It's cold.  No chicken-sicles yet.  No heating either, but now you guys are getting me all nervous about that 'cuz some of you are doing it!  Darned if I do darned if I don't!  What kinds of heaters are you using?  I finally decided to let them tough it out with their feather coats but I'm back on the fence now... -9 in the closed coop.

Ok, it's getting to be that time... AGAIN.  Back on with the girl's layers and layers that make her look like the little brother on A Christmas Story!

BIG HUGS youse crazies!

I just love arguing with my kids on cold mornings like this. If it is -10 outside and the wind chill is -20 you NEED to wear a HAT when you walk to school!!! No debate!

I am putting off getting into the freezer car........ and the cat just threw up. Great.

Everyone stay warm.... share body heat if you have to... wink.png

good morning,,  I lurked as long as I could..  I have no new news,  Nothing to talk about but the weather..  about -15* ..  supposed to be up in the 30's by Sunday..  as long as it stays above zero for the rest of the winter, I guess we can tough it out,,

DrH,  tough break about your friend's son..  I don't know how I would handle such a situation..  not good, I would guess..

I hope the heater in the guinea coop gave them a little comfort last night..

I think I will break another bale of straw and freshen up the deep litter..

There was a flock of blue jays in the yard this morning,,  no wonder I am going through so much feed..  I wonder how they would taste ??  Do you think the DNR would re imberse me for the feed ?

I can remember walking to school with wet hair..  more than once it froze like one of those plastic halloween wigs..    held better than hair spray, I would guess..

I could never understand how the girls could stand the cold, wearing skirts..

Hello everyone...My friend Judi is on your board. (I bought the nicest prettiest
lavendar orp. Roo from here). I have a question...The Ideal Hatchery special is pretty awesome....but the common sense person in me thinks these chicks would show up dead with these temps...though suppose to war up to 15 by weeks end. Ideal says they'll be fine....anyone order chicks this earlyand they aren't all dead?

Livin' the life in Southern MN with a few other humans - the other half, and 2 girls...- for the flock...My beloved  Lav. Orp. Rooster with his leading ladies - 1 Gold Sex Link,1 Red Star, 1 Easter Egger, and two old biddie buff Orp. hens...added  Feb.2013- 16 Bantam Cochin chicks....soon to make my life really crazy by adding a few ducklings...Khaki and BEI's....also adopting 3 LF...

If Ideal says they can deliver, I would venture to guess they can..  If they show up dead, Ideal will replace them, I would guess..

to be on the safe side, before ordering, ask Ideal what they would do in such a situation..

I brooded 80 chicks outside under a brooder hood at minus 20 degrees..  something I would not suggest,  nor would I do it over again..  It was a situation that I had no choice..

DenisemHogan: People on here know me as "Angiebubs" lol I am SO glad you made it on here!!! Will Ideal let you order them now with a later shipment date? Also FYI: The person that I get the eggs that produced "Amery" is planning a chick day at her co-op in mid March or early April...they will have several fun varietys of sexed pullet chicks...you should come up?!!!! If you go back a few pages (think 8 or 10?)  and look for BlackBrookPoultry-you will see the list of varieties she posted on Sat or Sun.

Just looked at the weather website.  It's STILL 12 below with 29 below windchill!  Really?  Warm up a little, will ya?  3 of the 5 eggs I got yesterday were frozen.  Dogs didn't see any problem with that situation.  Hopefully DH can get them earlier this afternoon before they freeze again today.

Keep warm everyone!

DeniseH.: Also-there are people on here with Lav Orps that you could get eggs/chicks from (BBPs' would probably be related-but you could check with her). I think that CelticChick has Lav Orps as well.
