What are the standards for this bread?
Where could I find them?

One that I am particularly curious about is their comb. what type of comb are they supposed to have?

Ideal Poultry sells them. I plan on getting myself some next year and starting a breeding program. The ALBC has some information on them as well, especially in the free downloads section (check the selecting for egg production and selection of breeding stock articles for Chickens).

Edited to answer your question: They have pea combs.

If you are going to order them to start a breeding program DO NOT order them from Ideal!

The reason I started this post is because I ordered some from Ideal in April. I just realized about a month ago they don't have pea combs so I decided to find out. I just want to figure out what other features they may be missing.

That said, I have been very happy with them otherwise. One of them is very ADHD, we named her booger because she is crazy. The other has just finally worked her way to the top of the pecking order in our flock. They are both laying now and lay a large brown egg consistantly.

I agree, Ideal is very easy to deal with, I just ordered from them for the first time and lost close to half my chicks, they are sending replacements next week. Didn't hassle me or ask me silly questions about whether or not I was taking care of them properly, unlike some other hatcheries I've dealt with. I've had chickens since I was five, they need the same things now that they needed then.

Thanks, I would still like to know as much about Buckeyes as possible so anyone who has anything to add please do.

Also if you know where I could find the breed standards on Rhode Island Reds please let me know.

This might turn out to be a pretty funny situation. Our other buckeye/maybe RIR is named Bucky. wouldn't that be funny if she turned out to be a RIR. Wonder what the Buckeyes will think about her if we are able to get real ones LOL!

cgmccary - Thanks for the very informative link!
