Landowner Kills Dogs Killing chickens

Here is part of what is quoted on My Space by the dog's owner....

About me:
Sophie Allera Macintosh Harper Born October 8, 2003 Died November 30, 2007

I am survived by my daddy, Russell Harper and my mommy Tamela Harper. My love and partner Montana; grandparents; also Roscoe Harper who left this world the same time I did because of an individual who thought meaningless chickens were more important.

I know that we were loved by everyone. We were good dogs, but got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is what I don't get, she says the dog were good, and got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yep, killing chooks for the 3rd time is definately the wrong place. She deserves the Iresponsible Dog Owner of the Year Award for placing the blame on the chicken owner.

As for meaningless chicken comment, well I guess she is ignorant of what we all know already about our feathered friends. It's just unfortunate that once again the pooches pay the ultimate price for a sin commited by their owner. This woman should not be allowed to keep pets of any type.

Foolish, foolish dog owners.

Can someone explain to me again why people think it's OK to let their dogs run all over creation? My neighbors used to let their dog run loose. Then it bit two people, hard, both of whom filed complaints with the town animal control. Doggy no longer runs loose, and they're lucky they weren't forced to euthanize it--the people who got bit were VERY generous.

My dog, even as a puppy, is very protective of his territory. When he perceives a dog without a human (e.g. the neighbor's dog within its Invisible Fence, coyotes, strays), he goes nuts with barking and growling, unless I tell him to chill out. I have never seen him really take another animal apart, but clearly sometimes he wants to.

Don't people worry their loose dog would get run over in the road, or injured by other dogs if not humans? Don't they worry that a loose dog, even with a collar and tag, might find some other family who will feed it and love it better? As loyal as dogs can be, I've known a few who are happy to switch loyalties for anyone with a dog treat.

actually, many do not care until it is too late. they are too stupid to even realize the implications of their actions or lack thereof and will not take responsibility for the consequences. many folks are caught up in a world that only revolves around what pleases them at the moment.

they get a dog and then ignore it for 23.9 hours of the day. out of site, out of mind. these same people forget to feed the dog on a regular basis, they could care less where it actually is at any particular moment, but let someone shoot it for destroying personal property and they come unhinged.

in the case of the dogs that were the culprits in this particular thread i would guess that the people think they loved their dogs but they don't know what love is. love is disciplining and controlling your dogs (or children) so that they stay out of harms way and do not endanger themselves. had they actually loved their dogs they would have not allowed them to escape on a regular basis. apparently the chicken couple loved their chickens and protected them.

In short of reading all of these posts, this is how I feel. This is truly a terrible situation for both the chickens, the dogs, and the families.

The dog owners admit to knowing there were previous situations where the dogs escaped their enclosure. They assumed that other people were not bothered by this.

These situations of escape should have been their first indication to spend the needed time and resources to properly prepare their dog enclsure.

Proofing it all along, would have eventually ensured the strength of the enclosure. Then when the family was away from home the dogs would, "no guessing," be confined to their enclosure.

Secondly, I didn't learn whether or not, the chickens were confined or free ranging. However, in either case, the bottom line is, if people are going to keep pets be it chickens, dogs, or whatever, kind of animal, they should confine their pets on their own property.

Very simply put, animals of any kind should not be permitted to roam free of supervision to bother other people or animals!!! Maybe hard lessons were learned for both families in this situation. All of us should take this situation to heart for reasoning our own situations concerning our pets. Are we doing the correct things we should do for our pets and our neighbors to avoid a similar situation? People who truly respect their neighbors and love their pets do the correct things.

The dog owners learned nothing! they are still talking meaningless Chickens! Duh!!!

The chicken owner learned to shoot the first time, I'll bet and then S.S.
