boiled eggs seemed rubbery??

Hello ,my dad was eating some of our fresh eggs today and said that one of them was rubbery?(they were hard boiled)  Is there something wrong with my chickens?  or is it normal for early layers to sometimes lay an egg that is a little off? Thanks

Were they boiled too long?  I know if I boil my eggs too long, they end up like rubber-balls and the dog gets an egg meal big_smile

boiled too ling.  It took me a while to figure that out.

Also, the eggs just do not take dye if the water (or egg) is too warm.....

To explain, my 3 year-old uses crayons to color on all our hard boiled eggs before I dye them.  This is because a big penciled "X" was not enough to let my husband know which eggs were ok to eat in the truck on the way to work.

LOL Laree...  my mother's college roommate used to crack boiled eggs on the wall next to her desk....  so of course, my mother switched them.  Thankfully they both thought it was funny smile

Every once in a while I will break open a hard boiled egg and the texture is "off" It is always one particular chickens egg, I just assume she just has off days, they are still perfectly edible just not to my taste so I mash it up and feed it to the dogs or back to the girls. I know its not because I boiled it to long, just her eggs have that rubbery texture sometimes. Hope that helps.

I don't recall where I learned this, but I am passing on this tip for perfectly boiled eggs.

Start with cold water (so the eggs don't crack as they will when placed in scalding water.)

Bring the temperature up to medium high to get a full rolling boil within 3 to five minutes. If the water comes to a boil too soon the resulkt will be lots of little cracks.

Once the water comes to a boil turn off the heat, place a lid over the pot and let stand for 30 minutes.

Eggs will be set with a nice moist white and a perfect yolk with no green tinge.
