Hi Kel, thank you!Hi Sally! Sorry to hear about your roo :-(
I know right!I so have to build that mouse trap!!!
GF??? something u didnt tell me??? LMAO!!
Do they kill chickens or just eat eggs??Had a possum attempt to attack three other night. Got awake at 10 to get ready for work and heard squawking at the coop. Went out to see what was going on and there was one inside the run with a rooster defending. Went in, caught roster, put him in the Coop and closed it up. The possum was gone in the morning.
A gee feathers lost, but no major damage.
Normally carry when I go to the Coop. Don't know why I didn't that night.

AWESOME WING!!!YAH !!!!second duckie was walking around bator when I got home, it's from an egg marked mixed pen, funny looking duck, pics will be up later today........
OMG that is too funny!! CAN you write a summary of that thread pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee??????Well for the past 2 months or more I have been haunting the 'Old Fashioned Broody Hen' thread... and actually read most of the 1500 or so pages! Whew! but figured it was something I needed some studying up on.
Then we got Gracie... and Gracie liked her new home enough she decided to go broody on us a couple of weeks ago and just won't give it up. Phyllis also started but she gave up after a couple of days... so not quite ready yet.
Today we are planning on giving her some eggs to hatch out. I ordered 4 Australorp and 4 barred rock eggs from Meyer Hatchery They were delivered yesterday and have been 'resting', no obvious bubbles rolling around in them when I candled (though I am a total newbie at that so fingers crossed that I didn't screw that up)
I am planning to mark the eggs (actually number them I think) and give them to her later today. I have been practicing with her the last week. I have allowed her to sit on one egg a day (I marked it) and the next day I would take out the 1 day old egg when I got her out to eat and drink, then I would place a fresh egg in the nest in front of her after she had gotten back in. Each time she promptly checks it over then drags it under herself chirruppping at it the whole time like she is giving it a talking to for being a bad egg and trying to escape the nest!
Hoping all goes well and maybe in 3 wks or so I will have some 'fuzzy butt' pics to share! I'm trying to not get my hopes up with the time of year and this being our first attempt... but still
