Please tell me not to do it! I WANNA DO IT!!!!
Just ask yourself.... is your brooder ready... is your coop ready... are your nerves ready.... and do you want to split it up since they don't have everything now or do you want to try to keep two brooders going at once or deal with introducing chicks of different ages later in the spring?
They may be cute... and I understand the urge... but... is it practical right now?
When you can answer all of these 'yes'.... then you will know what you need to do!
I CAN answer yes to all. Fortunately, DH pulled in a minute later, and distracted me by taking me to look at new dogs. The one I wanted got adopted right after I posted his picture. I should not have waited. I did see a decent dog yesterday, but I was having trouble bonding with the one volunteer standing outside the fence, petting Hunter, and calling him over nonstop. I think he would have jumped through the chicken run anyway. Don't think he would be a threat. Just destructive.
Going to another shelter today. The dog that I really want to meet is going to be a challenge. #1, he is a full blooded GSD that weighs about 100#. #2 (boy that symbol is overused) the shelter is closed the 3 days DH is home with the car. I may decide to find a way around that. Then I will just have to worry about a mammoth dog that may not have training.
BTW, I have the hatchery's number in my phone. DH kept us on roads without service so I couldn't call.
Edited to add that the chicks would have arrived 15 minutes ago.
