Another chick died today. Another one gasping really bad. The ones dying now are all the 1-2wk chicks. I have a few still sneezing, but other than the gasper, no one looks horrid. They have another week of antibiotics to administer. I had to buy more Oxine and it's on it's way. I was running the humidifier over them with Oxine in it until I ran out. I will be misting them this time. The humidifier doesn't produce as much steam as I'd like to see.
I finally pushed past the anger and explained to the old woman why I was mad and what her choices were going to do to us. Even though I told her, I guess she didn't understand the landslide she'd cause and bury us with. I asked her straight out if living with us was that bad. She said no. I asked if she would be willing to make a deal with me so both of us get what we want in the end and no one gets steamrolled. I asked if she could handle living with us until next year income tax time (8 months). If she still thinks she wants to move to a nursing home, so be it. I will have the money to move or put a down payment on the/a house and she'll hopefully be divorced by then. I was firm on her living on her own and that it would not work. I used today's examples to instill this. She does not know what her meds are and I have to sort them for the week for her. She had 2 baskets of clothes to be washed and she can not do her laundry herself. She had a bag of garbage that needs to be taken out and she can not take her own garbage out. She can't clean and she can't cook. I took her in knowing what I would have to do (it's like a 3rd child) and I took her back after she fell knowing what was needed (although I did not expect the unsanitary way she'd go about 'caring' for her colostomy bag). So, I will not have to sell my flock, I will not have to move for now and I can carry on as I was. But, I will be cautious. I want her to sign a lease so she's bound.
My mom's horse's strangles lumps did not burst today. During one of my breaks from applying hot compresses to Belle's lumps - a task I did for 15-45mins every 30min from 8am to 2pm today - The rescue my mom got her horse from was raided by the FBI April 30th. I'm sure some of you in Berks know the rescue in question. I told mom about it and how they have sold sick and dying horses before. The vet suspects it took Belle a week to start really showing signs of strangles because they gave her penicillin to cover it up. I am so glad I didn't get a horse through them. I told mom I'll go to New Holland or Middleburg and buy my horse for the sale price and not their over inflated, pocket lining price. Thanks, but no thanks. Sickening that people can prey on the good natures of other people. I'm glad mom got a good horse and Belle got a good human/s in the end, though.
So... some good, some bad and some neutral today.
