Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Nope! Need to figure out how to install a huge heated, pond in the sun that the ducks and geese cannot get into that wouldn't look like fort knox! I was thinking a conservatory (similar to the one in the pic below) would be awesome!!!

These are water platters, And see, I'm even personally pointing them out to you! (I hate when DH has the camera, I am included in every pic "for scale") Ducks, geese and I are doing well! There really isn't anymore work to caring for them now vs. summer, except breaking ice first (and my hand sticking to their metal kennel). I break and fill their free-range rubber tubs in the morning, and break and fill their kennel tubs when they go to bed. They can pretty much keep a hole drilled in the ice as long as it doesn't get too cold. They also eat snow, which is helpful!!
Well, you look very nice if that helps

..my gosh those lily pads are huge!!! I could sit in them!! hahhaa...gonna have to get a pond now..gee, thanks guys!
I wondered about the wet-fowl and how they managed...they need water for bed too? See, I just don't understand them like their land loving cousins...NOW..if I had a pond, well then that is a game changer..with those big lily pads!!!, and a fountain..and a swan or two...

Time to add the 'dry-gas' to the tanks!!
It was 17* this morning..57* in the house....yeah, we keep it a bit cooler here...hahaha, gonna be brutal tomorrow too along with some snow. Not too much I hope. Had to give up on the FF right now..it freezes so fast!
Well then Dry feed it is...cause trying to keep the waters de-iced is enough for me thank you very much!! Have a good night all, stay warm

They are very similar (I think even easier) to chickens. They need water if they have access to food. Weather permitting, I make them forage during the day (no free handouts) and then give them feed in their kennel at night. This time of year, they have access to the feed all day also. Ohhhh.... swans would be awesome!!!!! When you win that lotto, you are going to have to move back here so I can enjoy your pond and lily pads too!!

So it's a balmy 27 out there, the gates are frozen shut, I'm one slip n fall away from a hip replacement...arrrgh! been bringing the waterers in at night which helps.

maybe its my crazy girls, but I suspect that if they can't get into the box they desire (because its being used), they just lay where they are waiting....
They have 3 boxes and only 7 hens only my two oldest are laying...so they have room....i just think they are crazy..

lol! I'm already suffering mild effects of a crash a couple of days ago. Got those little Chicken Canteens I was talking about a few pages back. I love them so far except for it being a bit tricky to balance all three filled with water for the walk out to the coop in the morning. Made a bit more interesting with the recent addition of the frozen solid ground (nooooot as soft as it was when I was a kid) and a nice layer of ice. Was concentrating so hard on balancing those little waterers as I took a step off the edge of the sidewalk and onto the freshly fallen snow and ice, my feet slipped out from under me, the canteens went flying and I landed square on my butt. I felt the jolt straight up my back and into my head. I've had a crick going from behind my left ear, down my neck and into my shoulder and back for days. When did we stop bouncing and start breaking when we fall? 20? 30? I dunno. But I've definitely pretty much reached that point I believe.
