I went out about 0900 to check water and collect eggs, DH had done it at 0600 prior to going to work. I opened the pop door so they could go out into the run if they wanted. Over half of the birds headed right out to the covered run. (Most of the rest were interested in begging treats, go figure

I went back out at 2 pm for egg and water check and found the buckeye 'teenagers' all standing at the gate (which isn't a covered area of the run) waiting to be let out. I opened the gate and sure enough they all marched out and spread around the yard checking out their favorite spots. They are now under my carport (insert 'glorified storage area' here) relaxing in a pile of loose hay which is stored under there, the afternoon sun is angled just right to hit the pile so it is their favorite afternoon lounge. I really should clean up that area but I don't need it till spring so may as well let the birds have their playhouse I guess.

It's a balmy 12* in the sun, I don't even know what the wind chill may be.... and the silly birds are out and about.... go figure

I have a question about Tylan 50 (antibiotic)..it says on the TSC website that it is for cattle..is this still the stuff you use for poultry?.because it is the #50..and not the higher doses?
thats what I have on hand, search "Tylan 50" chicken dosage on here BYC search, and how to inject or you can oral it as well, whats up that you need Tylan? or you just want it on hand? I have it just in case I get injuries or bumblefoot :(

I can think of someone who is enjoying this snow...

Conquering the chores one waterer at a time...

Wing, how are you getting to the farm without 4WD? snow shoes? a sleigh?
OMG Blarney you need a kids plastic sled like I have! I take my 100lb bags of feed and a bunch of gallon jugs and drag them, its easier than the hand truck! I love my kids sleds, use them at the beach to haul the cooler and chairs, bring in wood and kindling, dog food, I even used to bring all the groc on the front porch at one shot at my other house, (it was fairly level with drive!) I eventually want to find a utilty sled like this one

Quote: Sally, just get one of the big black oil pans, it would have higher sides..

I was thinking more like 4 wheeler with sled for that job...

I looked them up at home depot, they are sold as cement mixing tubs, would be easy to connect a string pull to one..we use one under the plucker, drilled holes in the bottom to allow water to flow thru.....but the feathers clog the holes

these trays.....I keep a few around...they are handy for lots of things...if i would not have a stone driveway, I would try the sled idea....I think the stones might be a problem to pull it though

I have small driveway stones and that hard cheap plastic sled of the kids lets me pull a bag of feed (laying in it) up the drive through the grass and to the feed can. I dont use it unless its muddy, icey or snowy or like at the beach sandy, I have one of those folding cheap hand trucks for feed then, and I use 2 groc store cloth bags or feed bags, with gallon jugs of water, one on each shoulder and two in hand so I can get the gate open, works well when the hoses are off. I was so sick of running in and out and in and out, so I make my self into a oxen, but with my RA and wrists its easy on shoulders than to carry four gallon milk jugs out. I tried putting two jugs in 5 gal buckets and setting a bucket on top of the other to use the hand truck in the winter, but it didnt work out. I started using the kiddos wagon as I can fill it with a ton of jugs. but that dont work in the snow, or the hill out back to the one coop. : ( I will have to check out the cement ones, I am thinking they may be too thin and scratch holes in them easy but never know! prob alot cheaper too.

I do the wagon also....I can fit 8 of those kitty litter containers in the wagon....works great....

I use that wagon more now than i did when the kids were little.

Well-apparently there are several types of LT vaccine-and we vaccinated with the wrong one(along with several other people)....so no show for us this year. Kids were really upset. Live and learn.
