Katt, your chickens should be very hardy chickens to survive this winter :)
That's exactly where we are as well. Right smack in the middle of the red. D:
Fifteen minutes south of Hazleton and about 45 minutes north of Allentown.
I'm sooooo glad that at least once during "the Great Chicken Adventure of '13" I listened to my gut and that little voice whispering in my ear and insisted on enclosing the run completely in the heaviest grade clear plastic I could get my paws on.
DH is all like "They're chickens! Farmers a hundred years ago didn't cover their yard in plastic to give them a nice cozy place to peck around all day long!"
And I"m like "Yeah, but they're MY chickens. And I want them to have somewhere cozy to be out of the weather!"
Then he goes something like "Did your Mom cover the run in plastic when you had chickens on the farm growing up? Nope! Didn't think so!"
And I'm all like "No, but the chickens spent the winter hanging out in the BARN with a dozen HORSES to generate body heat and keep them warm! We don't have a BARN or HORSES "
Needless to say, I won and at least my chickens have a covered run to chill in instead of being stuck in the coop all winter.
