OMG! you guys are cracking me up!!!! I wont post, I wont post, I wont post......I wont post I wanna come too!!!

ugggg I really need to get some free roofing somewhere!

I got the pallets for another or three coops, just need some roofing and a window or three!!

Oh well my hubby is wanting to try hatching some quail.... so I will let him get into his own thang... that way he will be more intuned to mine!!!

I can prove we don't spoil our chickens. I was tempted to use the dog bed as a nest box, and decided against it!

GardeninMama! Your first broody hatch?! Congrats, how exciting! I have been separating my broody mamas from the main coop, I then can feed her and the babies medicated chick feed as she won't be laying any eggs for a few weeks anyway. Then they all get grower feed.

Sally, isn't your goal to have company for a lone chick? I may have some MF Banty Cochins hatching out in the next week or so. I've got a broody on a clutch and could part with a chick or two if it will help you out (as long as she does actually hatch this time). I'm near West Chester.

Motorcyclechick, You're completely cracking me up with the anniversary gifts. My birthday is coming up....a barn sounds good.
Thanks Blarneyeggs!! I picked up a new hatch of 10 unwanted Blue Partridge Chochin day olds on Sat... this blue silkie is going into lockdown wed..... so I hope he makes it and these guys take him in and not peck him!!! fingers crossed, so I MAY BE screamin for help at the last minute!!

I had seven cockerels in a 4 x8 pen through about 18 weeks to raise out as meaties. They had about 100 sq. Ft. Of run. No real problem except they slept in the run. I didn't fight it. They were raised together from day old. About to do it again. Too many cockerels, a lavender pro, a couple lemon cuckoo orps, and some Swedish flower. Might keep a couple, but don't want them ask, so they'll be meat unless someone wants them.
probably a few in the brother, too!

I'm a couple miles from wingstone, but doubt I'll make the swap, think I'm working.

Btw, a who sells meat birds has a sign advertising "healing eggs". What the heck are they?? (

Healing eggs? Never heard of them, but suddenly I want some.

Patricks.... new flock? hmmm still trying to figure out what to do with the ones I have., If it were up to my kids, we'd hatch straight through the winter. We ALL know who's going to be out there changing out the frozen water containers come February, though.

So I picked out my Great Pyr pup, paid for her... and she got bit by a Copperhead Snake. Really?! what are the odds? I can pick a different pup from the same litter, but am mysteriously drawn to this one. They are in North Carolina and need to be shipped so there is no real reason for me to have any type of bond with this little one, I've not seen them in person. But every time I see the pictures of the other pups and try to make my decision.... I think I want Miss Copperhead. Help me out... am I being silly? Breeder's had her to the vet and thinks she's fine.

Not silly. When you know you know.
When my dog died, that was supposed to be it. No more dogs. DH is a spoiled brat (says the woman called "Brat" that has gone chicken crazy), and he wanted another dog. He wanted a puppy. A funny looking mutt with a stubby tail, ran to the end of his cage, wagging his tail, toy in mouth, begging to play. We were the THIRD couple to fill out paper work for him. He had been there for three months (you know no shelter lets then live that long. He was a special case due to interest in him, and they already had him fixed, micro-chipped, and first shots).
When we got him home we realized that he didn't like people or other dogs. Just me. My husband was second.
Now he is mine

I still resent having him, but he picked me. It was meant to be. And he IS good with the chickens. Get the dog you "feel" for. Or not. That breed only lives about 7 years.

I say if you are attached to her and she is fine, then she is your one. I have a cocker that I bought from FL and we are in PA. I fell madly in love with her and knew she was meant to be mine. She was 3 mo old and just the cutest little thing!!! My hubby flew to FL to bring her home for me. She is now going on 11 years old and I have never regretted my decision. I think it is meant to be Blarney!

Now we want to see her!!

For the very reason you want a dog I'd WANT the one that survived a Copperhead bite. "Someone's" already on her side. I'd take that as a good sign, not a deterrent.
Yes, I had my first broody hatch, even though they weren't her eggs. They were D'Uccle/Serama, very cute and TINY!! I didn't know she wouldn't start laying for a few weeks, bummer. I really want to hatch out some pure Seramas, and I need her eggs to do it. UGH!!
