Feeling like I am in the twilight zone... Yesterday the 11 year old marches up to me with a rabbit In her arms... I am perplexed...where did this rabbit come from?? Do we have visitors?-the kind that bring their rabbit with them?....uh.. NO. 11 year old explains that the rabbit is hers and she and her brother each bought rabbits at the 4H fair last week and have been hiding them in her bedroom closet. Whaaaat!? Really? They only came clean because the rabbits ran out of food..
Today 15 yr old surfaces with a duckling....wait a minute, now where did THAT come from? We sold all of our ducklings.... He says 'there are 2, they just hatched'. What?? That hatch was over last week. I was very surprised that more eggs didn't hatch and now I know why...there were some Muscovys in there. GoodNESS! Never a dull moment around here, I'm telling ya!
That sounds a lot like what my kids did. Daughter hid a cat from her father for about 2 weeks. Then for 2 weeks he kept saying that she needed to return it. Guess who has a cat? Not me, not her, him. It is his cat. This was 7 years ago. cat is here, daughter is 1000 miles away.
My kids don't try to hide animals. They know mom lets them keep pretty much anything they will take care of on their own. The 7 yr old has a snake, between the 7 & 11 yr old they have 5 bunnies, we have 2 adult cats, a half grown kitten & 6 babies that are 2 1/2 weeks old...then there are all of the birds. My son has a quad of polish, my daughter has a quad of silkie/sizzles, plus they have each laid claim to numerous hens, roos, drakes, ducks, toms & turkey hens. They pretty much try to claim everything I hatch. They are learning that we have to cull the flocks at times though. We just can't keep everything...lol
