@Barbie, Awesome Job! Raccoons Beware!!

@Lisa, you can get Ivermectin at Tractor Supply. I usually up the protein when my birds are molting.

My Devan is doing well, she gets a break over the holidays and has her radiation therapy in January. She is back to work and even got a promotion, good stuff.

So glad to hear your daughter is doing well. We will keep her in our prayers.

Anyone grow medlars or use them before? We just harvested ours yesterday and I have a very large bowl to figure out what to do with. Some still need bletted, others are ready and will probably be frozen until the rest are ready.

I just checked my broody's eggs (day 19) and one is peeping already! The other 3 are scratching :) we should have new babies over the next day or two. Figures they're going to show up on about the coldest day ever lol.

Hello All!!

For anyone here on BYC in PA and surrounding states who may have been to my family's small animal auction at the Green Dragon Farmer's Market in Ephrata, you may know about the devastating fire that leveled our auction building back on September 13th.  Well, PLEASE help us get the word out that we will be operational very soon in a new building at the market.

Do we need new numbers?Last spring I was given a number (not a buyers number) of some kind I needed to show when purchasing.

DH & I are stopping by on the 21st..too early for the auction, but there are things we get from the market that you just can't find anywhere else!

..now you have my curiosity peaked!....

I have a question also....the potatoes gave seed pods this year. I have de-seeded them, "cleaned" them off..now they are drying...did i do the right thing here??..kinda late to be asking now, but this is an experiment..never knew i could grow potatoes from seed...I have read some things...but was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with potato seeds..and if you do..what / how do you grow/handle them?
Thank you for any info with this.
Love the chick pics!! All the babies are cute as ever

There are commercially available potato seeds (not seed potatoes, we all get them). I've never grown them, but I recall they are a lot like tomatoes in timing the planting indoors. They will not be clones of the potatoes you grew this year, like saving some potatoes to plant next year would be, so not many people would bother growing them from seed. If you do decide to grow them, I'd be interested in your experience with them. You know, almost all varieties of potatoes originated from someone planting seeds instead of tubers, so maybe you'll get something really good and will get rich selling the new variety to a seed company!!

well now..that would be something huh??....I will keep you appraised...I am really looking forward to trying this. I have read that the seeds are not the same as the plant they came from, like you stated..they will be something different, each pod could have many different types/varieties...very cool stuff. I am handling the seeds like any other seed, so i am hoping that this is correct...fingers are crossed. Thank you for your input!!

I learn something new everyday here..thank you so much for opening yet another door into the unknown!! hahaha, cause you don't know-what you don't know

Now I know what medlars are & you can make them into jelly...going to have to give this plant a thought, doesn't seem to need too much care and is pretty hardy....got the old-gray matter juices flowing!!

I made jam this year for the first time ever..hahaha, with all the canning I have done & never to have done -up jam..anyway..I put up Barberry jam...yep, you can make jam from Barberries, just might want to be careful as to how much you eat cause it 'could' cause a little digestive irritation, but I tell ya what..it is good!!
My father gave me a book .. edible plants of PA...very good book..I am looking to do even more with the new found knowledge next year!
