So today is processing day. DS and DH just left with a truck full of my birds. I think I may have made too many decisions with my heart instead of my head. We are keeping just enough birds to keep the lines we've been working on. And an additional 5 birds for sentimental reasons. It leaves us with approximately 20 birds.

This is sad, but understandable....:hugs

really it is not okay for employers to treat with disrespect,,, I have no problem with working extra hours, but do not tell me 10 minutes after the normal quitting time.

Rant over, to ticked off to put into words

hey danielle, did you see where with new jar lids that you're not suppose to put them in boiling water? just suppose to wash them in warm soapy water, lay them out on the counter room temp. and use them that way, something to do with no more bpa in them, if you put them in boiling water, you'll get "false" sealing, read it today in maryjanes farm magazine, i will have to try to remember this for next year when all my lids are gone ( i usually buy a couple boxes whenever i go to the store, that way they don't hit me all at once)
you know..i did not know that, but I was on the "ball" web site and reading the recipe for this I did notice that it said NOT to boil the water...well, I did wash them, and I had them sitting in hot water..not boiling though, but very hot....hmmm, I really hope I didn't mess anything up.
There should be a warning..or something on the new-boxes that say not to boil them...maybe it does and I haven't paid-any attention to it..oh boy...

The larger jars/lids were older, but the smaller ones were the newest...Thank you for the heads-up Sharron! I really do appreciate it..will be making more applesauce today..
Today was such a BEAUTIFUL day! It was so wonderful to be able to spend time outside in a t-shirt and not a big heavy coat, freezing to death lol. Chickens loved it to. They were off running all over the place, enjoying it. I even saw a few sun Bathers

Look who's on the roost! Last night, I went in and gave them a bit of a push. They've been pooping up the nest boxes from sleeping in them so I went in and put mama and all the babies up on the roost. Tonight, she took them there on her own

I got one of these too. Thanks Barbiegirl! It has proved a wonderful item!
I've had a cockatiel too, they've got nothing on a determined Grey. She can be a downright pain in the butt, but we love her. She is a rehomed animal too, so I'm sure some of her behavior is learned bad habits.
Homemade applesauce and garlic? Very tempting....
It was gorgeous today. They look so cute, glad they're coming around.

...hahaha
Can you please say a prayer for my cousins. They live on the outskirts of Ferguson Mo. They are expecting a new baby in a few weeks and had stuff in a storage locker in Ferguson and it was burnt to the ground last night.
oh ..so sorry for them Barbie! Positive-thoughts go out to them..

...I hope they stay safe!!

I just don't understand it...the businesses and people do not have anything to do with this craziness, why are they the one's that suffer...there are always some that make it horrible for everyone...do they even realize they are not only hurting themselves, maybe they just don't care...

...I hope things calm sooner rather than later for all.

Thanks guys. I have looked out the window no less than a dozen times today at the broody and chicks that I really had no business hanging onto. They've made me smile each and every time. So I guess it was worth it.

DH has never done the processing run before. I'm still not supposed to be lifting and am paying dearly for some indiscretions I've made there, so I sent DH and gave my son the day off from school so I wouldn't be tempted to lift. I actually thought DH would find it interesting, my son does....well, he did NOT find it interesting and was a bit traumatized by the whole process. Yes people, I'm married to one of 'them'. No clue where his food comes from. Sheesh!

welcome, it would be awful to do all that work and then have to redo it, i know i would kinda be p----d, not to mention the cost of the lids

Wasn't someone asking about quails a couple days ago? My Dad has been raising them for a few years and had unexpected triple bypass a week ago. He called me today, upset, he just can't take care of them right now (he can barely move) and wanted to know if I knew anyone who may want to buy them. I don't have an exact count on them but I think he has between 38-50 of them. He purchased 27 new ones about 6 weeks ago.

I will be at my parents on Thanksgiving and will have get a complete count but didn't know if anyone was interested in purchasing the whole lot. I will also find out the breeds too.
