The broodies were hatching free-range "barnyard mixes" - cute little black chicks lacking a pedigree but really good at foraging, esp if raised by a broody to show them the ropes.
I think they are all done now, and 2 pairs of Bielefelders hatched. I traded Welsummer eggs, also in demand because this strain has super dark eggs, though not as "new and rare". The BF eggs were much darker than I expected, definitely darker than our New Hampshires, but nowhere near even the lightest of the WS or BCM's. I will get more eggs in a few weeks because they also want one of my CCL cockerels (Reese line straight from GFF - those are pricy too). When I get more hatched, I'll let you know.
