My Silkie that tried to go broody this harsh winter finally got her eggs and hatched out 2 babies. So far 2 out of 6 eggs hatched and the other 4 have pips in them! She was sitting on 3 pure Silkie eggs and 3 mixed Easter Egger with Black Australorp.

its 10 15 pm and it seems kinda cold................am I gonna cave and go take the 6week old chickens in? I dont know..........

accuweather says a low of 49 tonite..............

that is above 40 but its still kinda cold..............

what should I do?

i put lots of pine shavings in so they would have some warmth if they want to snuggle up in the shavings..........the coop is an 8 x 4 and its generally closed up except for a small opening at the eaves............and the usual gaps here and there ..............

will it be warm enough?

they have feathers........and there are 4 of them so they can cuddle..................

one worried mother hen here!

If you've had them in the garage without heat and they are in a crate with shavings, they should be OK.

You can always go stand by the coop and listen. If they are cold they will be chirping. Or go in and check them.

I actually have a red flashlight so I can go in the coop and check the birds or move them around. The red light doesn't seem to disturb them like a standard white one.

I knew what I wanted to say, and forgot. Stargazing syndrome will have to work ... Wry neck is it?
Give it Poly-vi-sol without iron. (Baby vitamins)

Thank you so much! I knew someone would have an answer, I worried bout this poor duckling all day, I didn't think it was gonna make it, but now I know what to do to help it I feel better!

It's hatching time! One new little black mottled turkey poult is out already - clearly this one is wanting to make a grand entrance into the world.

Pics or it didn't happen!

Hatching here, too. Think 6 orpingtons are out last I looked. Dare I say, another white one with pink eyes the way it looks. They are still in the bator.

Hoping for some more albino offspring, are we? ;)

I think they should be fine, their body temp is much higher than yours, and they have a down jacket! And it won't be in the 49's for long. Only a few hours that it is actually that cool before the sun starts to rise. Let us know what happened. (If you caved ;) ). No judgements! I understand! :hugs

Last night was the first night out for my group that was in the garage and the first night in the garage for my group that was in my bedroom lol. Garage babies did great and actually looked annoyed when I said good morning to them lol. They were still sleepy! But then again, I had been turning the light off for them at night when they were in here but not out there. I haven't gone outside yet to check the others but I'm sure they did just fine
