i had planned on canning tomatoes today but instead planted some lettuce n spinach and did some major cleaning up of down branches in the goat pen. It took me 2 1/2 hours to do chores on Thursday with no extra cleaning tasks. One hour was spent grazing goats, but 1 1/2 hours for chickens? This has to be cut down. I like the idea of everyone free ranging together with just 2 large feeders and 2 large waterers offered, I'm not hatching right now so am not worried about cross breeding... Anyone have solutions on cutting chore time down?
when you aren't in breeding mode I would opt for a single flock area set up with a couple of food and water sources. we use a hanging 5gallon bucket deer feeder for our scratch mix, it can be scheduled to scatter twice a day but the birds have figured out they can get extra by pushing the scatter tray around themselves, so the roosters spin it with their beaks and call the hens to see what they 'found' for them.
Love the pics!
Here is the parrot we adopting/rescuing. Her name is Lucy and she is a 22 year old Eclectus. We pick her up Friday!
@dheltzel. Do all the bantam Cochin have feathered feet? I have 3 brown/tan chicks that have no feathers on their feet. I only had two Rhodebar eggs, and only one hatched. I think I may have gotten a Blue Maran too, I only have one large back chick, but two Marans eggs hatched.
Edited to add: that's my DH, and you can't see it, but he has a huge smile on his face.
Gorgeous! I can understand the smiles! I would bet you have been smiling a bit also!
Tractor Supply on Route 30 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania just started carrying Naturewise Feather Fixer!!!
It is on sale for 15.00 a 40 lb. bag , reg. 15.99 a bag. I sure hope they continue to carry it. I need to finish the feed I have before I can switch over to it. Have been discussing it with other BYCer's who are using it with great success!
Subscribe to Nutrena's "Scoop From The Coop" blog online and every once and a while they email you a 2.00 Naturewise coupon.

Next closest place I know of that carries it is Rural King in Connellsville, PA.
Thanks for the heads up....
They also opened a Rural King near Butler.... Clearview Mall.
This bird is absolutely beautiful! How do you adopt a parrot? I'd love to do that
Just put my last load of carrots in the canner for tonight. That'll make 28 quarts today. I still have a bunch sliced and in the sink in water. Think they'll be ok in that overnight? I still have 1 more case of them to wash, slice, and can tomorrow. I'm guessing at least another 25 quarts worth 😣
I'm guessing your kids really like carrots! That seems like a lot, and a ton of work you are doing!
