Hello, my name is Abigail, and I am an idiot.
It's been 5 days since I collected eggs, and I have no idea how long Stevie Nicks has been sitting. For over a week she has been in the nest box, in the pancake position. At night, she was on the roost. I think. Between heads and tails, I thought I was seeing her on the roost. During the day, I would wait until she was outside to collect eggs. That meant a lot of trips outside. She was still laying though. Sunday was my last collection, and she had laid that day, and for several days before. In the past five days,, she hasn't budged from the nest. I know the others are laying in with her.
So! Now what? In the past, the girls were tamer, and I would break them, or at least mark eggs, and let them have what I wanted them to have. I can't explain it, but I don't want to bother her. Yes, I can fence her in, forcing the others to go back to their old laying spots.
I don't want 12-20 chicks though. More if she laid a few before sitting. Do I pad my arms and hands, and let her get mad while I take all but six eggs (thus aborting the rest, and that is what hurts me) or take all, and replace them with six green eggs I have inside?
