Sunshine finally got a girlfriend! He's about 6 or 7 years old now and has never seen a female goose in his life. He's only ever had male company. I think he's beyond ecstatic....I think she's completely overwhelmed lol

OK. Help me out here.
My research is coming to the conclusion that sweetgrass turkeys are descendants of ronquiere turkeys. I have what is being called ronquiere, is genetic testing the only way to know for sure.
Since I am raising these for breeding purpose I should be positive of what I have here. I got a feeling this quest is gonna cost me a lot to find out.

I am terrible at research, I need to reread things multiple times for it to stay in my head more than 5 minutes.
From what I know of the subject (Porter's site, where you found the same) it is unlikely to be directly descended. The current line was a random chance bird at Sweetgrass Farms that raised broad breasted bronze. Kevin Porter bred them down to heritage size and figured out the genetics. It would be fairly easy to create the color from a Royal Palm and Bourbon red, making your own line of Sweetgrass. They resemble the old paintings, but since there are no current photos of Ronquiere from Europe, I think it is reasonable to assume they were bred into other colors and lost.

Turkeys originated in North America, so in a sense the original "heritage" turkey is the Eastern Wild.
