Whew... came in for a break.  I ran to Atwoods to get feed, came home and planted my strawberries, tomatoes and peppers.  I still haven't gotten the seeds in-- but that's next.  I then mowed the lawn (we have a 60" zero turn) so it goes pretty fast.  My silkies freaked out, but the other chickens didn't freak when I mowed around their coop.  Wasn't sure what kind of a reaction I'd get.  Need to go weed eat around my garden and then I'm done.  Oh and if I still feel motivated... need to work on my brother's coop.  It's dry enough now.  I have a sore throat and headache coming on, though.  Not sure what that is about.  I woke up with it this morning.  HOpe I'm not getting sick, that'll suck.

ETA:  Danz--yeah, I'd like to be able to do everything myself too!!  What size shed are you wanting to put up?  Sounds like your DH needs to gather his friends up for the day and have a barn building!  You could have a weenie roast and marshmallow dinner to keep them happy!  We do weenie roasts even in summer!  And it's CHEAP!  :)

My new girl!!!! This is Molly and she is just lovely so far! I almost feel bad penning her for now because she seems to know exactly why she is here, doesn't seem at all like she is planning on leaving. Pardon the hobo goat shelter in the background. They initially were going to live in the metal run in with my bantams but got evicted mid winter after too many head butting close calls with my cochins! A run in is on the build list for them this spring. wink.png

Sapphire blue.  I'm pretty well sold out right now.

Josie-She's beautiful.  I'm sure she does want out, but leave her in for a few days.  She needs to know where home is, and that generally where the food is, so be sure she is fed there with the animals (looks like you got that covered) and not at the house or something.

Would it be a mistake now to get an older dog that already knows his/her job? Or should we just wait until our pup is a little bit older (he's almost 3 months now) and get another pup next year? I could really use input from all sides bow.gif

It's my opinion that you could add another older dog if you wanted.  Just be sure it's the right dog to begin with, and I'm sure if you've been reading all this stuff you've got a pretty good idea.  Make SURE it has been bonded to livestock and poultry.  If you get an older dog, be sure you know WHY they are wanting to rehome it.  Some dogs are not without problems.  That happens with any breed.

Josie, Molly is a beauty. She has such a sweet face, too ^_^

Thanks, Ivy. Yes, I've been researching my little heart out and my eyes can tell the story, lol. I will make sure to ask a lot of questions if I go the older dog route. I worked at an animal shelter and have seen some of the problems that come in the door :/

OMGosh!!  She is just so adorable!!  She is BEGGING you to be let out!  LOL  But yeah-- I'm with Ivy on this one-- don't let her out!  We brought home a Beagle and it took off after two days of being penned-- my parents thought she was "acclimated" since she enjoyed being with us.  Never did find her, even though we drove up and down everywhere looking for her.

Sapphireblue-This might be worth checking out ASAP...

This looks like a HUGE male.  If you are going to add an older dog, it is better to do it while the pup is young, in my opinion.  The older dog will accept it better and teach and protect it.

Of course it is not recommended to add an adult male to an already established adult male.  They very often will not get along and fight ferociously.

We had both a good and a frustrating day today.  Trying to deal with our local physicians office is next to impossible.  The girls that work there fight and bicker amoung themselves.  My DH's cardiologist wanted some labwork done yesterday, so she faxed the request to the physicians office here.  They were supposed to call.  They didn't.  After 3 phone calls from us we still got nowhere.  We talked to his cardiologist and he will have it done Monday in Topeka while I am in the hospital there.

I was trying to buy parts to finish the gate on my chain link fence for the new turkeys, and all they had was the pin side that fit one size panel and the loop side that fit a different size panel.  We drove up to Orscheln's in Falls City, and they had different ones, but the pin side they sold didn't fit any of the loop size they sold, nor did they fit the loops I already had.  DH decided to get the pins we needed anyway, and he is going to stretch the loops to fit.  What a P.I.T.A!

Then I got my automatic watering system I ordered.  The little cups were not with the order.  I checked my invoice.  I had forgotten to include them on the order.  My bad.  I kicked myself in the rear a few times then went ahead and placed another order to get them.  duh.

The GOOD news.... we went out to the barn tonight and the doe we have been waiting on 4-EV-ER to have her babies had twins.  They were up and doing well and already knew their business about eating.

The brown and black one is a doeling and the solid black one is a buckling.

P1000425.JPGP1000423.JPGP1000428.JPGThey are just so darn cute I can't help but love-up on them!
