tweety, I hope they get your medication adjusted so you don't have such bad side effects & you feel better soon.

Danz, I'm sorry about the peachicks, I know you were looking forward to them. I'm still going to go look at that peacock farm in Sept. when I go to KC. I really don't want to spend much more money this year for birds, but if I found one I like I may get that. I went down to Arkansas City this evening to this guy's place everybody told me about to get some more guineas. He had some that were the age already to let loose outside, but I opted to get babies instead because I am just afraid if I get older ones they won't stay here after I let them loose. The ones I have are about a month old now, so they should be ready in about another month I think to let loose. I went down there looking for lavender ones because I already have pearl & I think royal purple. Honestly I went there thinking I was only going to get 5 more, but he had 8 lavender babies in the brooder & 2 whites so I ended up taking all of them. I figured that way with 20 guineas if something happens to some I should still have enough to do the job. This way too the first batch will be ready sooner to go out & then a month or so later these can go too, so there will probably be two groups of them hanging around together in their own age group. I just love the lavender color, I had some of them before when they were almost all eaten by the darned possums. Hopefully with the dogs here now that won't happen again. Anyway, they sure are cute little things when they're little, but aren't so cute when they're grown, at least their heads aren't cute, I do like their spotted feathers. Oh & Danz, I thought you had a lot of chickens & stuff, but I don't know I think this guy may have you beat where I went this evening. He had pens & pens of chickens, ducks, guineas, & some turkeys & a brooder house with multiple brooders in it. His chickens though are RIR & Buff Orpington mixes & then he had several kinds of ducks & about all of the colors of guineas except royal purple. I know where to go get guineas now anyway if I ever need more, boy does he have lots of those! If anybody is looking for ducks this guy has ducks like crazy too.

Well I have to go feed & water everyone for the last time today. My dogs need to eat before they have to fast for surgery, so I had better get off here & get busy.

So, I went out to put the chickens up for the night and found their coop entirely empty of food and water dishes. The first suspect: FERN!

So, I went trampling around the immediately area near my house and coop and sure enough, found the water dishes taken apart and scattered around and under my car... found the food dishes not too far away... that little stinker is a serious kleptomaniac!

Overly blessed with an amazing boyfriend.. 27 acres of open land.. chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, cats, 2 awesome Great Pyrenees and 2 grown children - are we having fun yet? Yes we are! :)

Kleptomania goes with the territory I'm afraid Sunflower.  Tory is almost 18 months old and mostly past that stage, but she did go on a spree stealing dog toys from our neighbors two doors up, which I really thought was hilarious.  I guess the dog toy manufacturers actually DO make toys that appeal to dogs then.

Hmmm... I wonder how you can make sure the chickens have food and water though, if Fern is going to do that.  Is there a place you can put the food and water that they can reach but she can't?

Sunflowerparrot, when you get the chickens into their new coop I think Fern needs to stay outside, but that maybe tricky because even if you had the people door closed she could go through the chicken door & get in for quite awhile yet. Well when you get your bucket waterers in there she won't be able to carry those off, so at least they will have water. I agree, my GPs carry everything off they can, we just try not to leave anything laying around we don't want them to have because if we do it will be gone in minutes. They even steal my broom off my front porch & carry it around if I don't put it behind the bench & plant shelf. It has a chewed up end on it from them taking it & chewing on it. It's just a trait these GPs have, they're little thieves.

Tonight I was trying to get the pups fed so they could be fasting for 12 hours for their surgeries tomorrow & Jasmine has been really grouchy with Lily lately. They had been fine eating on different sides of my rabbit hutch, but the way they're fighting I'm thinking I may have to move them even further apart. They really have been getting into some bad fights lately & I don't know why. I'm hoping getting them spayed will help mellow them out some. They're getting close to the age where they will be going into heat soon, so I'm glad we're going to get this taken care of.

Can you believe it,  the month old guineas twice the size of the babies I got were afraid of the new babies? I thought that was hilarious that the were afraid of such tiny little birds, the little cowards.

At this time, the chickens are free ranging and I have scraps scattered in the yard as well.. and a little swimming pool in the yard that everyone, chickens included, drink out of during the day. In the new coop, I will have a 5-gallon bucket water system and a PVC feeder attached to the coop wall.. They should be in their new coop in a week :)

LOL, I just can't keep up with the posts!

Sunflower- Yep, Pyrs are kleptos. Sarge ran off with my son's brand new scooter on his birthday when we weren't looking. Stole it right off the front porch. Now there are teeth marks in the foam handles -_-. We have to keep anything we don't want him taking off with out of sight or out of reach. We have to feed the barn cat on top of a plastic shelving unit and still have to put our metal bistro chairs in such a way that the dog can't get to the shelves, or he will put his big ol' paws up there and eat all the cat food! He used to eat all the chicken feed when we had him penned with the chickens, and they would eat his food. So, we started feeding him after the chickens went to roost. Fortunately, he stopped eating the chicken feed, that was EXPENSIVE! We have him out of the chicken pasture now, so everyone gets their own food and we don't have any more "accidents" with dead chickens.

So glad to have had all that rain! I hate when it's hot and muggy, but I'll take it!

I got my new Facebook page set up for Two Chicks hatching egg and chick delivery service. Check it out! https://www.facebook.com/TwoChicksKansas . The darn phone company hasn't got my phone turned on yet, so hopefully no one shies away because they can't get through.

Keep cool, everyone!
