Where I used to groom we use a purple whitening shampoo. It is made by Double K and is called Alpha white. It is fabulous shampoo and I don't think it would stain your birds. Most of the shampoos now don't have the same harsh chemicals stuff used to have even ten years ago that would stain an animals coat.

I'm going to be having excess cockerels available within the month. The youngest are Swedish Flowers and they are only about 4 weeks right now. The others are a bit older, between 8 to 12 weeks old, I'm guessing. They are porcelain and lavender Orpingtons, and black Ameraucanas. In November, I will have a couple of the more colorful Aloha roos available who are now approx 5 months old.
Congrats on all your eggs! SO exciting setting your own birds eggs. Hey, let me know if you have a porcelain orp roo who isn't spoken for, I would LOVE one!

On a side note, the one thing the animal control officer did point out to me was that I did not have the proper permit for the number of birds I had. I've known that for some time & the form is sitting on the desk. Just never took the time to fill it out & send it in. She did not write me a citation, but said that an officer may be back by to write me one if they deemed it necessary. The officer knew I was pretty upset so I think she cut me some slack. So I guess what I'm saying if you need a permit & don't have one yet take the time to get it done.
Oh no! I am so very sorry, how tragic. That is the worst feeling to lose your birds that you have raised, it is just terrible.

What does a broody silkie look like?
My DD's splash silkie has decided to sit with her tail in the air like she is laying an egg and will not get out of that position. I put her outside the nesting box and she still sits that way until I move away and she moves back into the nesting box.....
Is she egg bound or broody????
I hate to lose another one of my kids favorite pets......

Hawkeye- My broodies get up and walk around to eat and drink or if I disturb them on their nest. They will walk around making their cluck, cluck broody noise and put their bums up in the air and wings down and flog anything that goes near them!
Trish-Everything worked out fine with the post about Lucie. I was just really upset that someone would write something so critical without even knowing me or the dog. I would never put her in a situation where I thought she wouldn't do well. Sorry to hear your girls think guineas are so exciting. I find our heeler can't hardly stand not chasing the guineas because they make such a racket and they fly!
Such a gorgeous day today! We did a lot but not near as much as I thought we would get done. DH woke up with a huge rash on his leg that he didn't even notice until I pointed it out so after assessing that it wasn't there last night and determining that it could be a spider bite we went to the emergency room and they put him on antibiotics.
I think he is going to live but he has been milking it for all its worth!
Moved chicks from the garage to the hoop house outside finally. They were so glad to have more space. I got a catch rope back on our naughty mini who isn't that bad anymore but lost his halter out in the pasture. We went to town and did a bunch of errands and even test drove a few new cars. I have an older jeep and it is getting high in the mileage department and a bit of a hole in our pocket so DH wants to replace it. Tried out a chevy equinox and a chevy terrain (I think thats what it was called) They were both really nice, I haven't ever had a new car so it will be quite the luxury if we can budget for it!
Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

seem like a good breed, if i had the room i would probably raise a batch of them they seem like they would be a good 4h starter show bird...considering i dont see many of this breed in my class...
its a feed scooper it cant be perfect but over all when every thing is said an done i love mine its great its starting to show a little wear an tear but its to be expected i have had it for 4...
